Internet Horrified After Cockroach Is Seen Swimming in Chicken Batter at Louisiana Restaurant: ‘Imagine What You Haven’t Seen’

Somewhere between the flour and the fryer, a Louisiana Popeyes kitchen picked up an ingredient nobody ordered. A video circulating online shows a cockroach crawling through a tub of chicken batter at a Popeyes in Walker, Louisiana, leaving many viewers questioning their next drive-thru meal.

The clip is short and shaky, but the insect is clearly visible as it moves through the batter. What was likely meant to stay behind the scenes has now become a widely shared video online.

🤢 This is why you’ll never catch me eating in a Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen

A massive cockroach is just casually swimming around in the chicken batter like it owns the place.

11 seconds of straight-up nightmare fuel.

The way it’s moving through it… I’m actually sick.

The handheld footage pans across a kitchen workstation before stopping on a large, open container of white chicken batter sitting near stainless steel counters and overhead equipment.

A cockroach can be seen crawling through the batter, moving along the sides of the container and pushing through the mixture. The video also shows drips falling from equipment above and the typical clutter of a busy kitchen.

The person recording keeps the camera focused on the container, making the insect easy to spot as it moves around inside. There is no narration or dramatic commentary in the clip. Instead, the footage simply shows the cockroach crawling through what appears to be batter intended for preparing fried chicken.

Popeyes has since responded to the video, saying the conditions shown do not reflect the company’s food safety standards and that the matter is under investigation.

Internet Reacts to the Louisiana Popeyes Cockroach Video

One commenter who used to work in food delivery wasn’t shocked at all: “I used to work for a place that delivered food to these places. You would not believe the *expletive* I’ve seen. Needless to say I don’t eat at those places.”

Another zoomed out to the bigger picture: “Imagine what you haven’t seen going on for the past 6 hours all over in every food store and restaurant.” A third kept it simple: “You never want to see behind the counter at any fast food joint.”

Someone else went further, insisting the problem isn’t isolated: “Trust me, you do NOT want to know. EVERY restaurant that has an out of public view kitchen is serving up a banquet of roaches, rodent droppings, flies, and almost anything you can imagine.”

And one commenter found a silver lining of sorts: “The roach may be the cleanest thing there.”

Louisiana Popeyes locations aren’t the first in the chain’s history to face public scrutiny over kitchen conditions. In the past, videos showing cockroaches inside Popeyes locations in Detroit, Memphis, and other cities have gone viral, leading to temporary closures, health inspections, and public statements from the company saying those restaurants were independently owned franchises.

It is still unclear whether the Walker, Louisiana, location will face a similar response.
