Why should she hate it?

Parenting is no doubt harder these days with all the ideological considerations involved, which is why one dad from Utah has the internet torn regarding what to teach his daughter. The Utah resident uploaded a now-viral video of how he teaches “good” and “bad” flags to his daughter, and he just so happens to consider pride flags as “bad.” Because of his “teachings,” the dad has since ignited a debate online and even raised concerns for his daughter.

There are good flags and there are bad flags. If you don’t teach them right from wrong young society will decieve and corrupt them.

TikTok user familyinventor of Utah County, Utah, is the father in question, and earlier in July, he uploaded a clip of his bonding with his daughter. In the video, the two can be seen riding a scooter around their neighborhood, both without a helmet. The video also has the caption, “It’s important to separate the good flags and bad flags,” where the TikTok user points out flags to his daughter so she can label them as “good” or “bad.”

“What’s that flag to your right?” asks the father, pointing to a pride flag, to which the daughter replies, “a bad flag!” At the end of the video, the dad also quizzed his daughter, asking, “what is the good flag?” where she answers, “The good flag is American!” The TikTok user also encouraged this belief using positive affirmations, and the parenting style has since drawn attention online.

The clip, shared by TikToker familyinventor, has so far gained more than a million views across multiple social media platforms, though not everyone viewed the parenting style positively. In the comments, viewers appeared divided, with many criticizing the creator. One person even mockingly wrote, “And daddy is a red flag!”

People online argue that it’s hateful teaching

On one hand, social media users on TikTok and Reddit have slammed the Utah dad’s bonding session with his daughter. “Teaching discrimination early are we,” points out one TikTok commenter, while another raised some alarms for the daughter, claiming, “she’s too small to know hate. how shameful.” Another couldn’t help but feel sad for the child, “truly heartbreaking seeing hate taught in real time,”

On the other hand, some actually praised the dad’s flag teachings and even brought political figures like Kirk and Trump into the discussion. “The people saying ‘you are teaching her hate’ are the same ones that cried tears of joy/ celebrated for what happened to Charlie Kirk. Keep being a good day,” argues one commenter, with another mentioning the President, “The same people in the comments saying this is teaching hate will say unspeakable things about Trump.”

On top of the criticism towards the father’s hate for pride flags, other commenters also had to point out the danger he was putting his daughter in, “I support his choices of riding a scooter without a helmet. I wish he didn’t force a similar situation on his kid, whose cranium will impact the road at a much higher velocity because she is on his shoulders.” Thankfully, it appears the daughter is physically safe so far as the TikTok user shared subsequent updates about his family.
