Fetterman really said that out loud?

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman criticized Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed during a CNBC interview. He called El-Sayed the prospective head of an emerging “pro-Hamas wing” within the Democratic Party. The exchange gained attention after Fetterman linked their conflict to a broader fight over Democratic standards and direction.

CNBC asked Fetterman about El-Sayed’s earlier “ogre on a pike” remark and criticism of his Democratic record.

Fetterman dismissed the personal jab with a joke about his appearance. “Call me Senator Shrek, whatever,” he said.

He then called El-Sayed “the Pontiac Platner” and criticized his political positions.

Fetterman said some of El-Sayed’s statements and actions were “unacceptable” to him. He also questioned what he had done or supported to offend El-Sayed.

Fetterman connected the confrontation to what he called the “Platner disaster.” He blamed Bernie Sanders and others for supporting Platner before serious allegations engulfed his campaign.

Fetterman cited a rape accusation, a Nazi tattoo, and allegations involving former girlfriends. He then criticized Sanders for expressing no regret over his initial support.

Fetterman accused the group of arrogance and urged Democrats to “stop this now” and “call it out.”

He described himself as a committed Democrat. Fetterman said more party members should speak similarly.

John Fetterman’s ‘Pro-Hamas Wing’ Remark Draws Democratic Backlash

The exchange widened an existing dispute over racism, party loyalty, and Fetterman’s standing among Democrats.

One X user called the remark “Out in the open racism.” Another wrote, “Just say you’re not a Democrat. No one will be surprised.”

A separate response stated, “At this point he’s not a Democrat criticizing the left anymore but basically a Republican operative with a D next to his name.” Another wrote, “No Democrats are pro-Hamas. Fetterman will say thing to get TV hits.”

Other users rejected the criticism. One wrote, “Fetterman is right. Glad someone in the country has the guts to call it out.”

Another response warned, “El Sayed has enemies in the Senate before starting. Not a wise move in a chamber where any one person can derail the agenda.”

The exchange left their disagreement over Democratic priorities unresolved. Fetterman continued defending his position throughout the interview.
