Ohio Republicans are facing a wave of anger from their own backyard after explosive allegations against Congressman Max Miller sparked a fierce online backlash, with many locals accusing the Republican Party of staying silent while one of its own battles claims of domestic abuse.

As reported by Tiffin Ohio, Rep. Max Miller, who represents Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, has been accused by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, of holding a gun to her head, throwing hot water at her, and shoving her into a wall during their relationship. The allegations emerged through court filings and a police investigation connected to a custody dispute.

Miller has strongly denied every allegation. He has not been charged with any crime and has filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno. Prosecutors did not bring charges following the investigation into the injury that prompted police involvement, and a child welfare inquiry did not substantiate abuse or neglect.

Ohio Republicans Face Growing Backlash as Local Anger Boils Over

Even so, over on the local Ohio subreddit, many users were less interested in the legal battle than in what they saw as the Republican Party’s response.

House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed questions by stressing that the accusations remain allegations and pointed to the House Ethics Committee process. Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, whose daughter is Miller’s former wife, has also stopped short of publicly calling for Miller’s resignation.

That silence has infuriated many commenters.

One of the most upvoted reactions summed up the mood with the sarcastic remark, “Party of ‘Family Values,’ amirite?”

Another user wrote, “I’m shocked, shocked, to find abuse of women in the Republican Party,” while others questioned why senior Republicans had not spoken more forcefully.

Several comments also focused on Bernie Moreno’s position as both a senator and the father of Miller’s ex-wife.

One argued, “If Bernie Moreno won’t stand up for his daughter and granddaughter, why would he stand up for you?”

Others expressed disbelief that Moreno had remained largely quiet throughout the controversy, saying his lack of public condemnation spoke volumes.

The discussion quickly went beyond Miller himself, with many users directing their frustration at MAGA politics more generally. One commenter claimed, “These people stand for nothing,” while another simply wrote, “Would I expect anything different? No.”

Some users also voiced support for Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter, hoping the allegations could reshape what has traditionally been considered a safe Republican district.

The political fallout may already be taking shape. Cook Political Report recently shifted Ohio’s 7th District from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican,” suggesting the race has become more competitive.

For now, the allegations remain unproven in court, and Miller continues to deny wrongdoing. But if the reaction from Ohio’s online communities is any indication, many voters are no longer talking only about the accusations themselves. They are asking why Republican leaders have had so little to say in response.
