Ohio’s political temperature has reached a boiling point after Senator Bernie Moreno’s explosive confrontation with Dr. Anthony Fauci sparked a wave of outrage across social media, with hundreds of Reddit users branding the performance embarrassing, hypocritical, and little more than political theater.
The backlash followed Moreno’s appearance before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where he confronted Fauci over the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic and demanded an apology. Fauci, who had invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, declined to answer Moreno’s questions.
But for many Ohioans discussing the moment online, it was not Moreno’s attack on Fauci that grabbed their attention. Instead, commenters focused on what they see as his silence over allegations made by his own daughter, Emily Moreno, against her former husband, Representative Max Miller.
Emily Moreno has alleged in sworn court filings that Miller abused her and their young daughter, including claims involving hot water being thrown at her and injuries suffered by the child.
