In a post on r/AmIOverreacting, Reddit user A_nature_boi accounts that two men came to their home without notice. The duo seemed to be part of a housing renovations business but were quite nosy in checking whether someone was home and reportedly peered right through their front door’s window.
As Nature Boi approached the door to see who was there, they claim they were partially clothed. It’s not hard to see why they were very upset when they approached their front door only to see someone on their tiptoes to peep into their house. After being told to leave, the two stood outside by their trucks for eight minutes chatting before finally driving off.
Nature Boi spared no hesitation in taking this incident to the police, but you could imagine their surprise when the cops allegedly said that they “had no reasonable expectation of privacy.” Even according to California’s “peeping tom” law, OP believes they have a case to feel appropriately violated for what the men did without any permission whatsoever.

As the subreddit’s tradition, Redditors were quick to respond to OP’s inquiry that they indeed were not overreacting. “NOR but I would’ve put that glazing tape kind of thing on those windows first thing when I moved in!” exclaimed a commenter. “Yea I’d be covering that glass too after something like that can’t blame em at all,” remarked another in agreement.
“NOR, it’s rational to be a bit creeped out when you don’t expect someone to be watching you from outside your home,” chimed in a third. “NOR. Standing outside a stranger’s house and looking in their windows is insane,” remarked a fourth.
Among the top upvoted comments, many strongly recommended the California resident get privacy film for their windows. Since the police didn’t allegedly do anything this time, there’s no telling whether other people would attempt the same at their house in the future. Fortunately, OP seems to have been right on top of that.
“I have since this afternoon installed privacy film,” Nature Boi wrote in an update to their post. They added that they’ve also called the police to have a record of the incident just in case the two men came by again. Better safe than sorry.
