Star Trek: Discovery is bringing back a familiar face to its second season. Ethan Peck has been brought on to play the role of Spock in the Discovery universe.
Ethan Peck’s Spock will be off on his own journey away from the USS: Discovery crew. In the season two trailer, we hear that Spock has gone away from the Enterprise in search of answers. This leaves his whereabouts and motives very vague, but I’m sure more will be revealed in the upcoming season.
Peck certainly seems to fit the bill as he greatly resembles the character. Stepping into the role of the fantastic Leonard Nimoy from Star Trek: The Original Series is no easy task for Peck and something that he seems to be taking seriously. He took to Instagram, posing with the Nimoy family and writing this:
Thanks to the Nimoy family for your open arms, warm welcome, smiling curiosity and support, for making me feel worthy, as I embrace and take into my heart the iconic half alien we know as Mr. Spock. It is an incomparable honor.
Peck is likely being brought on to bolster interest in Star Trek: Discovery as the series has struggled to capture a wide audience. Star Trek: Discovery is only available through CBS All Access, making the show a bit of a hurdle to get into. Adding in the titular character should help bolster public interest inside the Trekkie fandom.
Showrunner for Star Trek: Discovery, Alex Kurtzman, had this to say about the importance of the role:

Star Trek fans have much to rejoice about these days. Patrick Stewart recently announced that he would be reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming show. Star Trek: Discovery is currently in production for its second season, and is set to be streaming in early 2019.
