Outrage erupted online after a young boy was filmed chasing birds at a zoo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attempting to attack them.
A zoo visitor filmed the boy after he entered a bird enclosure. He was seen holding a stick and swinging it toward one of the birds in what appeared to be an attempt to attack it. As the bird ran away, the boy continued chasing it with the stick still in his hand. “Oh my God,” a woman said as she witnessed the shocking scene.
A person outside the enclosure said the boy was autistic, providing some additional context for what viewers were seeing. Even so, several commenters remained concerned about the birds, particularly as the boy could be seen chasing them and swinging a stick in their direction.
Another video showed that a woman had jumped into the enclosure to get the boy out. It was claimed that she was a family member of his, although this was not confirmed. In the video, two birds appeared to corner the boy and the woman as they stood near metal steps leading out of the enclosure. The boy fell onto the grass as the birds continued attempting to bite him.
The woman then helped the boy climb the steps to exit the enclosure as the birds continued trying to bite him. After the boy was safely outside the enclosure, the birds appeared to turn their attention toward the woman until she also climbed out of the area. The video then ended, with the man who documented the incident claiming that the boy and his family had been banned from the zoo. “Yes they did for life,” he wrote.
Jumping into a bird enclosure at a zoo and attempting to attack the animals is an extremely dangerous and reckless act. It can put both the animals and the person involved at serious risk. Zoo enclosures are designed to protect wildlife and visitors. Entering one without permission can lead to injuries, stress, or harm to the animals. The reported lifetime ban would prevent the boy and his family from returning to the zoo. This is as the incident allegedly placed both the birds and the boy in danger.
