A male high school teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has ruffled a lot of feathers online with the strict rules he has planned for his students during the 2026-2027 school year. The educator laid out his three rules in a TikTok video, saying, “I stand on this with my entire heart,” but what he revealed shocked both teachers and parents in his comments.
According to the ELA teacher, his students would not be allowed to take trips out of his classroom while lessons are going on. He said he would not be handing out passes for students to use the bathroom, get water, or visit other classrooms.
As for situations where a student asks to use the bathroom, the teacher argued that his classes last around 50 minutes and the student should be able to wait until passing time.
“You can hold it, or you’ll learn,” he said. “And before we talk about that there’s not enough time, there is enough time if you go straight to the bathroom, use it, and get to your class right away.”
There is some wiggle room in his policy, but not much. The teacher said students would be allowed three “emergencies” for the entire year. However, he maintained, “The emergency is you getting your education. You will be in my class 24/8.”
Viewers React to the Wisconsin Teacher’s Bathroom Rule
Many viewers did not give the teacher’s no-passes approach a passing grade.
“Yeah this is disgusting… you never know what students have going on,” one person wrote. Another chimed in, “Absolutely not. This is not right at all.” A third remarked, “This is a power struggle, and I’ll never understand what people get from them.” A fourth commented, “Controlling bathroom passes is and has always been the weirdest thing. They’re kids…”
Parents also made their feelings known, with one warning, “If my child cant use the bathroom i will be at the board education real quick and u wont have a job.” Someone else argued, “This feels excessive. If they wanna cut class and tank their own grade, that’s their prerogative.”
Several people were particularly concerned about how the policy could affect female students. “This is really harmful for teenage girls who never have regular periods (bc they’re teenagers), and they get them at any given moment. Be more considerate,” one commenter urged. Another echoed those concerns, saying, “You can not do that to your girls. 4 minutes is not enough time to handle your business and get to class… This could cause a traumatic event.”
Despite the overwhelmingly negative response, the teacher has not shown any signs of easing his rule. In the comments, he said he had used the same approach for two years without receiving any complaints from parents or school officials. He also clarified he is in High School, as other younger schools are different.
He also explained that his strict stance comes from what he sees every day at school. According to the teacher, students have repeatedly abused passes, particularly for the bathroom, to the point that the hallways are always packed while classes are in session.
