Georgia Farmer Slammed After Complaining He Can’t Find Workers as Immigration Crackdown Hits Red Farm Country: ‘Actions, meet consequences’

Consequences came calling

A Georgia farmer complaining that he cannot find enough people to pick his peas has become the latest symbol of a problem many online critics say was painfully predictable.

Patrick Shivers, an agricultural YouTuber identified in viral Reddit threads as a Georgia farmer, says workers are not showing up despite an offer that includes housing, utilities and the possibility of earning as much as $1,400 per week.

In the video, Shivers warns that “some of y’all about to go hungry” and complains that people do not want to work.

Reddit’s response didn’t mince words. One commenter summed up the mood with: “Actions, meet Consequences.”

The anger is not just about wages or working conditions. It is about immigration and the awkward political reality facing farm country.

Georgia backed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, while farmers nationally remain a heavily Republican voting bloc. A 2026 Farm Journal survey found 59% of farmers surveyed said they always or usually vote Republican, compared with just 6% who said they typically vote Democratic.

There is no evidence in the supplied material proving how Shivers himself voted. But that wider political context is exactly why his empty fields have attracted so much fury.

The Immigration Crackdown Is Colliding With Farm Reality

American agriculture has long relied heavily on immigrant and seasonal workers to do physically demanding harvest work. Reddit users therefore saw Shivers’ complaint not as an isolated staffing problem, but as a consequence of a political movement that has demanded tougher immigration enforcement while depending on the very workforce those policies can frighten away.

One commenter captured that contradiction perfectly: “People don’t wanna work” is very different from “people don’t wanna be deported.”

Others questioned whether the headline-grabbing $1,400 figure tells the full story. One Reddit user claimed Shivers was advertising $12 per bushel elsewhere, meaning the maximum weekly figure may depend on workers maintaining a punishing pace rather than receiving a guaranteed salary.

Another commenter mocked the complaint entirely: “That’s an awful lot of talkin and not a lot of pea pickin.”

That is why this story has struck such a nerve. For years, Republican politicians have promised aggressive immigration enforcement, and rural voters have remained a core part of that coalition. Now, when farms struggle to fill jobs, critics are asking what exactly anyone expected to happen.

You cannot build an agricultural economy around immigrant labor, cheer policies that make that labor harder to access, and then act surprised when the fields are empty. For furious Reddit users, Georgia’s unpicked peas are not just a labor shortage. They are the consequences arriving on schedule.
