Security guards are supposed to make people feel safe, but in one Oklahoma woman’s case, they made her feel the exact opposite. Around 3 am one night, Reddit user Good-Duck says three men unlocked her front door and entered her public housing home. The three turned out to be OCHA security guards, who were there to investigate a reported “banging” that was reportedly coming from her home.
According to Good-Duck, the guards who suddenly appeared inside their home at 3 am were there to intimidate her just as much as they were responding to a caller’s allegations. After preventing OP’s partner from staying the night, one guard allegedly said this outrageous remark: “We don’t have to have a warrant, we can come in any time for ANY reason we want, and when you signed your lease, you forfeited your 4th Amendment.”
Needless to say, there were plenty of things wrong with what happened that night. While telling Good-Duck’s partner and guest to leave wasn’t exactly illegal, the security guards’ presence without a warrant was. There wasn’t any emergency in the home, nor did they allegedly get consent from Good-Duck to come inside. Instead, they had used their master key to unlock and enter OP’s home when they had no business doing so.
Many Redditors Were Skeptical of the Woman’s Living Situation
In the comments, many Redditors were on Good-Duck’s side and opposed the security guards for their unacceptable behavior. Though some people questioned why OP didn’t call the police, considering her situation was definitely worthy of a 911 report. She responded, saying that she believed the police would be in support of the OCHA security guards.
Unfortunately, multiple commenters seemingly didn’t realize that Good-Duck wasn’t living in her public housing home for free, and pays rent like everyone else in accordance to her income. In other words, she’s not an unemployed tenant simply complaining about breaking property rules, resulting in security involvement.
All that being said, Good-Duck says she plans to get to the bottom of this with her legal aid as well as prepare accordingly in the future for any guards entering her home without notice.
