An Illinois mom called out gentle parenting, and people loved her brutal honesty. Her video has surpassed 570,000 views, 81,000 likes, and 6,000 comments. In the video labeled “Sorry, I am not a gentle parent,” the woman argued that she loves her kids but they “are [expletive] annoying.”
She doesn’t care what people think about her approach. The Illinois mom brings up a scenario in which she loses her cool over her kids’ behavior. She explains that when she asks her kids to do something nicely, “they just want to stare at me, look down, walk away, and go get themselves a little snacky snack.” They then proceed to sit at the table for thirty minutes. She claims it’s only after nothing was done that she confronts her kids by going and telling them, “Go do what I just asked you to do.”
As a response, the Illinois mom claims her kids will look at her, surprised, and ask her why she’s always so mad. Furthermore, they claim, “I didn’t hear you. I just wanted to get a snack.” She argues they do hear her but choose not to listen. The woman rants, “Now you wanna have this victim mentality and pretend that 20 minutes ago I didn’t just ask you to do something nicely.” Her honest take is seen as refreshing, with many moms taking to the TikTok video’s comments in relief that they aren’t the only ones.
People Love Illinois Mom’s Take
Many in the comments double down on what she says, with one parent feeling seen: “I’m on mom’s side, I’m also that mom!” Another agrees, “FINALLY TikTok put me somewhere I need to be.” Meanwhile, many claim their children do the same things. One parent says, “My kid can hear a cricket fart across 6 states… but if I yell for her to do something from the other room, she suddenly can’t hear me.”
Several love her take on gentle parenting and feel she understands where they’re coming from. One comment reads, “First impression of you, and I’m behind you 100%. We don’t gentle parent in our house.” Another says, “Okay, I’m safe here from judgement. Gentle parenting DOES NOT exist in my household.” One commenter agrees, “I’m totally an F bomb mom. Gentle parenting is for gentle kids, and I [expletive] sure do not have those!”
The Illinois mom posted another video in response, showing the reason she loses it on her kids. In this, she doubles down and shows her daughter playing outside instead of doing her chores.
