Texas Rep. Al Green renewed his push to impeach President Donald Trump during remarks on the House floor. He announced a privileged resolution accusing Trump of committing impeachable offenses and violating his presidential oath. Green said the measure addresses alleged conduct not included in Trump’s January 2021 impeachment.

Green first used his one-minute remarks to announce his intention to bring the resolution. He told the House that impeachment was “the solution for this president.”

After receiving recognition, he invoked Clause 2A1 of Rule 9 and formally gave notice of the resolution. The measure, H. Res. 1486, seeks Trump’s impeachment for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Green accused Trump of violating the presidential oath required under Article 2, Section 1, Clause 8. The resolution says Trump failed to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

It also describes the alleged conduct as separate from matters cited in H. Res. 24. That resolution formed the basis of Trump’s January 13, 2021 impeachment.

Green’s resolution calls for articles of impeachment to be exhibited to the Senate.

Green’s latest impeachment effort drew criticism centered on congressional priorities, taxpayer costs and his repeated attempts to remove Trump.

“Bahaha another waste of taxpayer dollars. How about you completely fund the impeachment process hearings etc! Put up or shut up,” one user wrote. Another argued, “Honestly, they need to put limits or something on this because it’s absolutely ridiculous and a complete waste of time.”

Others focused on Green’s repeated impeachment efforts. “The ninth time he’s wasted congressional time on a failed impeachment scheme,” one response stated. Another questioned the basis of the effort: “Are the High Crimes and Misdemeanors in the room with us now?”

Green has formally given notice of the resolution. Whether the House advances his impeachment effort remains unresolved.
