A flower shop in Santa Ana, California, put a man on blast after he was allegedly caught on security footage making off with a massive bouquet of red roses without paying. The store posted the footage on TikTok and even left a message for whoever may have received the flowers: “your man is a loser.”
However, when the video started to circulate online, rather than universally condemn the man for allegedly stealing, plenty of viewers jokingly said it proved just how far he was willing to go for love.
According to the store, the incident happened this week at around 6:30 p.m. Security footage shows the man walking into the flower shop, and after spending some time looking around, he eventually makes his way toward a large bouquet of red roses.
The shop said the arrangement contained 50 red roses. Immediately after picking it up, the man bolted outside the store with the bouquet in hand, leaving behind a startled employee who had been attending to him.
Another camera positioned outside captured him running down the sidewalk with the flowers before crossing the street. The store claimed he then made his way to a vehicle parked across the road and drove away, although that portion of the alleged getaway is not clearly shown in the footage shared online.
Although it is not clear what the man planned to do with those flowers, the business said that if he had given the bouquet to a romantic partner, she deserved to know where it really came from.
Viewers Somehow Found the Romance in It
The video has since exploded on TikTok, racking up more than 3 million views and 400,000 likes. And while stealing from a flower shop would hardly qualify as a traditional romantic gesture, that didn’t stop plenty of viewers from having a little fun with the situation.
“If he wanted to he would ladies!!” one person joked. Another wrote, “All I see is that he’s willing to do anything for her.” A third declared, “If he ain’t stealing flowers for me, I don’t want him!!!!” A fourth imagined the man telling the recipient, “I stole these flowers just the way you stole my heart.”
Someone else said, “It shows he’s willing to risk anything for her love.” Another added, “He was willing to go to jail, just to see you smile girl.”
Others claimed to understand him, pointing out how expensive bouquets can be.
“Don’t blame him , bouquets are [expletive] expensive,” one commenter wrote. Another agreed, writing, “He just Saved himself 150 BUCKS.” A third chimed in, “The way the prices are i wouldnt blame my husband if he did this I hate when he waste money on flowers that are way over priced!”
Not everyone found the situation funny, however. Some viewers were stunned by how many people appeared willing to make light of someone allegedly stealing from a small business. “Yall need some standards in the comments asap,” one person criticized. Another wrote, “I can’t believe you guys are saying you would be okay with this if your man can’t BUY you flowers then get a new man.”
As of this writing, the flower shop has not shared any further details about what happened after the alleged theft. It’s unclear whether the incident was reported to police or whether the man has since been identified.
