A Texas mom is going viral for showing up to her 16-year-old daughter’s job and sitting there during her late shifts. The video split viewers fast, with some calling it protective and sweet, while others felt she was hovering a little too closely for a teenager who’s supposed to be gaining independence.
Posted to TikTok by @thequeenstyledyou_, the wordless video simply shows the mom recording her daughter bagging an order at work. On-screen text explains that she sits in at her daughter’s job specifically for late shifts.
According to her caption, the Texas creator said she only does this on nights her daughter works late, adding that she doesn’t care how it looks because she wants to know what’s happening with her daughter.
TikTok Had Thoughts About Her Parenting
A lot of commenters praised the Texas mom’s instincts, especially given safety concerns around young employees working nights. “Your such a good Mother, this is so sweet because there is crazy people and you just don’t know. 1000% RESPECT to you,” one wrote.
Some viewers took it a step further, saying the video shaped how they wanted to parent someday. “Sometimes I see things on the internet that make me aspire to be a better person. This one helps me decide what type of parent I want to be. You ma’am are setting the standard, I want to be this type of mom,” another commenter shared.
Several people directed their frustration at employers instead, arguing companies shouldn’t be scheduling minors alone at night in the first place. “Nothing irks me more than companies, especially large multi billion dollar fast food companies, put young women on solo alone in the evening/at night,” one viewer wrote. Someone else added it was “insane” that kids were being left to close stores down on their own.
Not everyone saw the arrangement the same way. A few commenters felt the mom’s presence, while well-intentioned, could hold her daughter back from building independence. “Let the kid grow up jeez,” one offered bluntly. Another suggested a middle ground, urging her to adjust her daughter’s hours rather than pull her from the job entirely, warning that overprotection risks “creating adults who can’t function without being babied.”
Ultimately, the debate highlighted a dilemma plenty of parents can probably relate to: knowing when to step in and protect your child, and when to take a step back and give them the freedom to grow.
