A Texas family is asking for the public’s help identifying a driver who allegedly hit a man’s vehicle in Houston before taking off without exchanging any information. Footage of the tense aftermath has since made its way to TikTok, where viewers criticized the driver for leaving the scene, while some of the reactions somehow made the situation about race.
According to the wife of the man whose vehicle was allegedly hit, the incident happened around 11:40 a.m. on Friday near College Avenue and Interstate 45. Footage recorded by her husband begins after the alleged collision, with the two men already arguing about who was at fault.
The other driver accused the woman’s husband of cutting him off, but he denied it and insisted that the man had hit his vehicle instead.
A bystander who apparently witnessed what happened also stepped in and backed up the husband’s account. He told the other driver that he was the one who had hit the vehicle.
The other driver refused to accept that he was at fault and marched back to his own vehicle. Moments later, he pulled away in his van and left the area.
The family believes the man may have been working at the time because his shirt appeared to bear the name “Capital Couriers.” His white Ford Transit also reportedly had no visible license plates or company decals.
The wife has appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recognizes the driver or vehicle, or has dashcam footage from the area to contact her or the Houston Police Department with information.
Viewers React to the Alleged Texas Hit-and-Run Incident
In the comments under the TikTok post, several viewers were stunned that the other driver drove away before settling the matter. Some thought he should face severe consequences if caught. “Just left the scene of the crime like it didn’t even happen,” one person wrote. Another said, “Gonna lose his job because he can’t control his temper.” A third commented, “Please get this guy arrested or at least you getting [sic] full restitution on your damage.”
Someone else added, “People like him should not have a drivers license. Shouldn’t be driving at all.” Another comment read, “They really need to increase the penalties on these people who hit and run. They need jail time.”
The conversation also soon veered away from the alleged incident itself as some commenters made sweeping remarks about the driver’s race. “Why is it always a black male?” one commenter asked. “Black people are so irresponsible. it’s a horror we have to deal with these people,” another claimed. “You know there’s no such thing as black accountability,” a third chimed in.
Those remarks drew pushback of their own. “Man these comments are sad,” one viewer wrote. Another said, “The comment section is full of people being casually racist over a non fatal hit and run.”
For now, the family still appears to be looking for answers. The wife said a police report has been filed, but they have so far had no luck identifying the driver. She also claimed she contacted the company named on his shirt and was told that its drivers work as contractors.
