A Pennsylvania police officer has drawn criticism after showing up to confront a group of men over their activity on his daughter’s Instagram account. The encounter quickly became physical, and the officer’s reaction to being recorded has raised even more questions about his conduct.
The video was shared on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout. It begins with someone already filming as a police cruiser pulls up near a group of men sitting outside a house. An officer gets out, shuts the car door, and walks straight toward them.
He immediately asks one man, “You wanna like my daughter’s pictures?” He repeats the question, but one of the men responds that nobody is liking his daughter’s pictures.
The officer then grabs another man by the collar and pushes him backward before turning to address the group about liking his daughter’s Instagram photos. The reason for his anger is not clear from the footage.
Things escalate when someone points out that the officer is being recorded. He reaches toward the phone and slams it, sending it crashing to the ground. The clip ends shortly afterward.
Several details remain unknown. The daughter’s age has not been established, so it is unclear whether she is a minor or an adult. The footage also does not explain how the officer identified the men or why he decided to confront them in person.
Internet Reacts to Pennsylvania Officer Confronting Men Over Instagram Likes
The footage prompted viewers to question how the officer found the men and whether he had used his position to pursue a personal grievance. One commenter wrote, “Sounds like they went TO THIS GUYS *expletive* HOUSE. Means they looked him up and used police resources to find his address. *expletive* loser wouldn’t dare do this kinda *expletive* off duty without a badge and a gun.”
Another accused the officer of violating the men’s rights, writing, “This cop violated the law and violated this person’s civil rights like they do all the time because he’s a big baby and thinks he’s above the law.”
Some viewers said the daughter’s age would make a difference in how they interpreted the confrontation. “If his daughter is a child, I kind of understand his reaction, if she’s an adult then that’s insane and I would wager he’s an abusive partner/parent,” one person commented. Others were less surprised by the possibility of an internal investigation. “Police are going to investigate themselves and they will find no wrongdoing,” one comment read.
Another viewer questioned whether the officer had a habit of confronting people over the same issue: “Does he go around and try and start something with everyone that likes his daughters pictures?” One commenter also raised concerns about surveillance technology, writing, “This guy definitely abuses the Flock camera system.”
Pennsylvania law prohibits certain forms of unauthorized use of criminal-justice information. The state police also audits access to its law-enforcement information system and investigates allegations of misuse. Flock’s published law-enforcement policy lists personal use, harassment, and intimidation among prohibited activities.
