A new book is coming to the Star Wars universe! Star Wars: Scum and Villainy will focus on the bounty hunters, gangsters, crime lords, and general wrongdoers of the galaxy. The author is Pablo Hidalgo, who is currently working as a creative executive for the LucasFilm story group, and also worked on content for the Star Wars website before that. The editor is Delia Greve, known for her work in other Star Wars novels. And the art director is Sam Dawson.

This book follows three generations of law enforcement officers. The first for the Republic, the second for the Empire, and the third for the New Republic. It is set up like a case file. There are mug shots, evidence reports, surveillance imagery, and even letters from criminals such as Hondo Ohnaka – a boisterous neutral-aligned pirate from Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels. Even more interesting is that during the Imperial Age these “villains” may actually be heroes.

Pablo Hidalgo stated that he was interested in writing this book because of all the unique characters in it:

“Variety. This is where individuality really shines. From a distance, political factions often tend to blur into uniforms and banners, but in the criminal underworld, you’re more likely to find really colorful individuals trying to leave their personal mark, because they’re not fighting for a greater cause. They’re just in it for themselves. So you end up with a really rich rogue’s gallery of characters.“

Aside from Hondo Ohnaka, there hasn’t been any confirmation of the other villains included in it. But it is likely we will see the case files on ruthless bounty hunter Aurra Sing, crime lord Ziro the Hutt, and perhaps even founding members of the Rebel Alliance such as Mon Mothma and Bail Organa.

Star Wars: Scum and Villainy will be released October 23, 2018 and is currently available for preorder. It comes in hardback and is fully illustrated.
