U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has recently been criticized for claiming that the current Congress is “almost unmatched in history.” The claim irritated Louisiana residents, who accused Johnson of doing nothing other than protecting the Trump administration.
In a recent interview with This Week on Capitol Hill, Johnson said over 70 pieces of legislation passed through the House in the previous week, bringing the total number of bills approved by Congress this term to more than 900, which he says is almost a record.
When asked about those who criticized him for calling this the second-most productive Congress in U.S. history, Johnson doubled down. He said no Congress had been as productive since 1949 and claimed it was probably in the “top three or four” of all time in terms of volume. He added that this was “almost unmatched in history,” and that politicians are making good on their promises to fix the government.

These comments did not sit well with voters on the liberal-leaning r/Louisiana, who had harsh words for Congress’s work. One of them said: “They are literally the most inept Congress in our lifetime. They have done zero to give the people a voice. They have solely worked for Trump and covered up his misdeeds or made him richer.”
A seemingly angry user wrote: “Unmatched for doing nothing.” Others agreed, arguing: “To be fair, they do hold the record for the longest government shutdown.”
Another person added: “If you’re talking about political cowardice, egotistical enabling, and abuse/overreach of power, then yes, Mike, this Congress is unmatched.”
Plenty of Louisiana residents also criticized Johnson: “My opinion of this man could literally not be lower.” One person even claimed that “Johnson is more evil than most because he isn’t upfront about his true self, but uses Christianity as a mask for his vile, soulless intentions. He is a Fake Christian. He is a worm feeding on decay. Hypocrisy and Lies!”
It’s likely that the controversy will continue, as Republicans claim the current Congress, which is dominated by the party, is doing great work, while the opposition criticizes these changes, arguing that they are making America a worse place to live.
