An older woman in Texas was labeled a “Karen” after she was filmed calling a young woman “obnoxious” for filming in public. The young woman, named Amanda, was filming herself as she walked through a parking lot, appearing to document part of her day. She wrote over the video, “I can’t believe I caught this interaction on camera.”
As Amanda continued walking and filming, the older woman passed by her and called her “obnoxious.” The comment prompted Amanda to turn around and ask, “Sorry?” The woman repeated, “obnoxious I said.” Amanda then asked what was obnoxious, but instead of apologizing, the woman replied, “Your life… whatever that is.”
As the confrontation continued, Amanda asked the Karen, “Why is that obnoxious?” When the woman did not respond, Amanda told her, “I hope you seek help. You seem so unhappy.” The woman then yelled back, “I’m super happy. I have a real job.”
Since the older woman’s comment seemed to mock Amanda for filming content, Amanda defended herself. “I do too!” she told the woman before adding, “I make $500,000 a year.”
As the Karen did not respond, a bystander applauded Amanda for how she handled the situation. “You go girl,” he told her, prompting her to thank him. Amanda then appeared to address her followers as she said, “God people are miserable.” The bystander agreed, adding, “I know that was crazy.”
