Donald Trump Jr. is inserting himself into the heated Texas Senate race via a post on the social media platform X, aiming at Democratic candidate James Talarico while encouraging voters to support Republican nominee Ken Paxton. His argument that Democrats harbor “hatred” towards straight white men did not go over particularly well with critics online, many of whom turned their attention back toward Trump Jr. and Paxton.
The president’s son made the remarks while sharing the video from a conservative account claiming that Talarico’s campaign does not hire straight men. Many commenters seemed to be on the same page, with some directly rejecting Trump Jr’s opinion.
“When they don’t think the cameras are on, Democrats will admit the hatred they have for straight white men,” Trump Jr. wrote on X. He then referred to Talarico as “Talafreako,” a nickname that has also surfaced in Republican attacks against the Democratic candidate during the campaign.
In the video, Sky McAdams, the Organizing Manager for Texas Majority PAC (formerly Texas Together) can be heard speaking about Talarico’s campaign. At one point, he says, “For the Texas Together, you know, like, there’s no, like all—it’s like the stereotypical, like, Dem staffer, you know, it’s all gonna be like, very left wing, theater kid type energy, you know, like, not someone who really relateds to, like—I don’t know. There’s a reason that men have left the Democratic party.”
He then goes on to continue explaining other things he allegedly witnessed while organising the Democrats’ campaign. It is unclear if McAdams was aware that he was being recorded at the time.
Personal attacks have already become a noticeable feature of the Texas contest. Paxton has previously mocked Talarico with nicknames including “Low-T Talarico, ” “Tofu Talarico,” and “six-gender Jimmy,” while other prominent Republicans have targeted the Democrat over his masculinity, gender, and diet.
Trump Jr.’s endorsement of Paxton also comes as the Republican has faced criticism from Texans throughout his campaign, including over his reluctance to debate Talarico. Talarico was previously reported mocking Paxton after his campaign accused him of “chickening out” of a debate, with one commenter simply saying, “if you’re scared, say you’re scared.”
That makes every viral exchange involving either candidate another opportunity for supporters and opponents to shape perceptions of the race. In this case, however, many of the responses underneath the post were less interested in discussing his accusations against Talarico and more interested in challenging Trump Jr. himself.

Even Trump Jr.’s choice of nickname became part of the criticism, with one person specifically questioning his decision to call the Democrat “Talafreako.” Taken together, the responses show that Trump Jr.’s attempt to rally voters against Talarico instead provided critics with another opportunity to attack both him and the Republican candidate he wants Texans to send to Washington.
