5 Most Exciting Remakes Coming in 2024

Could these remakes wind up being better than the originals?

There’s no shortage of original titles coming in 2024, but what can often be just as exciting — if not more so sometimes — is the remakes of older classics. These remakes can be a great opportunity to take the more dated features of classic titles, whether it be visuals, controls, or mechanics, and bring them up to modern standards. 2024 has some really exciting remakes set to drop, and some of them are coming very soon.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Konami is set to bring a number of classic games back this year starting with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. A remake of the third entry in the initially Kojima-led series, some fans are dubious of this remake since Hideo Kojima is no longer involved, and the last attempt to use Kojima’s story, Metal Gear Survive, was nothing short of a train wreck. Konami owns the Kojima-directed source material, however, so it’s really the studio’s game to lose when it comes to this remake’s quality.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has a 2024 release window, but nothing more specific as of writing this.

Silent Hill 2

After a tragically long hiatus, Konami has finally brought the Silent Hill series back and is remaking the most classic entry in the franchise to help kick the revival off. The visuals released for this remake thus far have been stunning, and it will certainly be interesting to see how the studio plays off some of the terror that was invoked via playing off the visual limitations of the PS2 back in the day.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Square Enix is continuing its colossal remake of the all-time classic with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The second in what’s currently planned to be a trilogy, this game will pick up where the first part of the remake left off with the group leaving Midgar and is supposed to cover the story going all the way up through the Forgotten Capital. Fan reception to the mechanics and additional story with this remake has been a bit mixed, but it’s undeniable that the work being put into the scope of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is unlike anything seen before.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is launching for PlayStation 5 on February 29th.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Nintendo is remaking one of the best titles from the Game Boy Advance for the Nintendo Switch and the results so far look fantastic. Mario vs. Donkey Kong in 2024 appears to take the fun puzzle-solving level designs of the original title and update them with the bright and colorful 3D visuals of modern Mario games. There’s going to be a lot of content involved in this game with more than 130 levels and it’s one of those titles that is wildly clever in how it makes something so simple so addicting.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is launching for Nintendo Switch on February 16th.

Persona 3 Reload

With the amazing success of Persona 5 still close by, Atlus is delving back into the fantastic JRPG series’ catalog to update Persona 3 with a look and feel that seems certainly closer to resembling Persona 5‘s. Unfortunately, the remake won’t be bringing any of the extra content from Persona 3 Portable or Persona 3 FE like the bonus story or the female protagonist, but if Persona 3 Reload still manages to capture what makes that game one of the best in the series then that’s all that really matters.

Persona 3 Reload is launching everywhere on February 2nd.
