A Georgia woman accused a store of profiling her after a security guard decided to check her purchases while she was using the self-checkout.
The woman, named Brianna, shared a video of the incident online along with a caption detailing what happened and making an accusation against the store. She said the incident took place inside Primark at Sugarloaf Mall. “Y’all got me [expletive] up today,” she wrote.
Brianna said she drove an hour to the store to shop for her children. She had around $300 worth of clothes in her cart and decided to use the self-checkout provided by the store. She claimed that while she was using it, an employee stood nearby and continued watching her. Brianna also alleged that a security guard then approached her and said, “the light isn’t going off, so that means you’re not scanning everything.”
Brianna continued expressing her frustration over the situation, saying the security guard “had the nerve” to go through her entire cart to make sure she had scanned everything. She then accused the store of profiling her. “Like, are y’all serious??? So, I’m being watched, profiled, and inconvenienced for absolutely NOTHING,” she wrote.
“I have kids to shop for and [expletive] to do. Don’t ever make me feel uncomfortable sending MY MONEY in your store again. And I drove an HOUR for this [expletive]! Never again,” the rest of the caption read.
Along with the details provided in the caption, Brianna also shared footage of the incident. The video showed the security guard taking Brianna’s purchases out of the bags and saying that she had to do her job and check them. Brianna continued filming as the security guard went through her items before saying, “I shouldn’t buy [expletive]. I should put everything the [expletive] back.”
As the security guard continued taking the clothing items out, Brianna repeated that she should put everything back because of what was happening. “Stop playing with me,” she then said. Brianna added that she was “pissed” before telling the security guard that she had scanned everything. The guard then began putting the items back, and the video ended with her explaining that the issue was caused by the system. She also apologized for the situation but said that she was simply doing her job.
According to Brianna, she ultimately left the store without buying anything because of what happened. In another video, she said she believed the employees and security guard suspected her of stealing and claimed they had been watching her from the moment she entered the store. However, there was no confirmation that this was the reason behind the incident.
Viewers Side With Georgia Woman Over Profiling Accusation
After watching the video shared by the Georgia woman, many viewers sided with her and believed she was right to leave the store without making the purchase because of how she was treated. “I hope you returned everything,” one person wrote. Another person said, “And they would have been processing a refund.”
More people supported Brianna and said they believed she had been profiled. “It’s her job?! To do what profile ?! I’m so happy you left everything there. I’m irritated for you,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Nawl that’s not her job please contact cooperate I work here and this is not what she suppose to be doing.”
Questions about store security took center stage. Viewers discussed whether security guards should be able to check a customer’s purchases during a self-checkout transaction. Some also shared their thoughts on how customers could respond if they found themselves in a similar situation.
