A Washington woman was asked to open her bag by a Goodwill employee who thought she was stealing. Not only was she wrongfully accused of stealing from the store, but they also accused her of stealing her very own purse.
TikTok user Jennifer (Jennifer15.0/TikTok) posted the confrontation that escalated quickly to shouting and arguing from both Jennifer and several Goodwill employees.
In her TikTok video, Jennifer is asked by staff to open her bag, fearing that she had stolen something. In mere moments, her own Coach bag is even called into question. After being accused of stealing the purse, the manager instructs the Goodwill employees to kick her out.
The manager continues, instructing his staff to put everything Jennifer had back into the carts and back onto the shelves. He tells her, “I can kick you out. You cannot buy anything.” This all happened because she confronted them over their wrongful accusations she stole her own purse. She asks the manager, “But it’s okay to actually accuse me of stealing?!”
As proof she bought the bag online, Jennifer spliced a section of a previous TikTok video of her with the Coach bag in hand. On her profile, she also has several videos prior to her bad shopping experience with the bag, too.
Jennifer stands there and watches them as they start putting back the things she was about to purchase. Even worse, they walk away with her cart full of her own things from home before even giving her a chance to respond. In her video, she also claims she tried calling 911, but “they never showed up.”
According to her, employees took her headphones, jacket, and more, and had “lost” it, only to tell her she could “grab something here for free to replace it.”
How viewers are reacting to Jennifer’s Goodwill trip
Viewers were both livid and furious by how the situation panned out, with many advocating in the comments that Jennifer could have avoided giving up her purse altogether.
Some commenters tried offering advice, claiming what Jennifer experience was a “violation” of her rights and that “legally nobody can ask you to open your bag.” They also suggested getting a lawyer. Jennifer responded back, stating she wasn’t aware she “could’ve just walked out.”
“They stole your bag!!!! Go make a police report asap!!!” another commenter wrote.
One viewer was bothered by the lack of police, stating they “would’ve just kept calling.” Jennifer shed more like on her call, claiming she’d been redirected to non-emergency calls. “Then I was just waiting for an officer to pick up the call. And never did,” Jennifer says.
Jennifer has not posted any update video further stating if she’ll seek charges of discrimination and or theft of her belongings. However, a comment she left stated she got her purse back, “but not the things that were inside.”
