Despite feeling familiar to some mainline entries, Monster Hunter Outlanders changes a few things when it comes to how its hunters, or Adventurers, work in this case. Instead of just bringing your player-created Adventurer, you can also bring three more AI-controlled characters to help during hunts. But what if you want to bring other players along for the ride? Well, that’s possible, too, as Monster Hunter Outlanders features a co-op system, and here we’ll tell you how it works.
How To Unlock Co-op in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Like many other things in Monster Hunter Outlanders, you can unlock co-op just by progressing through the story. The first time you’ll get to use this system is after unlocking Free Hunts, which happen extremely early in the game. Here, you’ll only be able to matchmake with other players who want to do the same hunt as you. However, you’ll eventually get to team up with others to explore the map freely, which is actually great and much smoother than some of the co-op systems we’ve seen in a few mainline titles.
As for how to use it, all you have to do is head to the Squad Up menu in the game and either start matchmaking or invite other people. For the former, you can just go for Assist Matchmaking or start the hunt to let other players join you. If you want to invite others, however, you need to head to the Squad Lobby menu, select the mode you want to play, and hit Create Squad. Here, you can invite people from your Guild, your friends’ list, and so on.
Like in the mainline titles, co-op hunting is always the best way to tackle a few difficult foes. Still, this feature is extremely helpful if you just want to roam around the map with others or farm a few of your daily materials and currency.
Also, we believe joining other players is a must when it comes to tackling some of the most challenging hunts in the game, so either try some random matchmaking or look for ways to join a guild. Either way, bringing others along for the ride is extremely helpful.
