‘A Broken Clock Is Right Twice a Day’: South Carolina Turns on Ralph Norman Amid GOP Feud

Not buying it

South Carolina’s Republican Senate fight has gone from ugly to openly hostile, and Congressman Ralph Norman is now taking fire from both directions.

Norman blasted GOP nominee Darline Graham Nordone this week, rejecting reports that fellow Republicans were pressuring him to campaign alongside her and insisting there was “no way” he would do so.

According to FITSNews, Norman described Nordone as a “totally fake candidate” and a “fraud of a candidate” after narrowly losing to her in the Republican runoff to replace Lindsey Graham on the ballot.

But the response from South Carolinians discussing the story online was hardly a sympathy campaign for Norman. Instead, several commenters treated the Republican-on-Republican brawl as political spectacle, with one Reddit user summing up the mood in six words: “A broken clock is right twice a day.”

That comment came after another user admitted, “I never thought I would agree with Ralph Norman,” before arguing that his criticism of Nordone was correct.

Others were even less charitable. One commenter described Norman as a politician suddenly trying to “claw back some legitimacy,” while another joked that the situation amounted to the familiar “Worst Person You Know” meme.

Republicans Turning on Republicans Is the Real Show

The reaction matters because Norman’s refusal to fall in line is no longer simply a dispute over Nordone’s qualifications.

It has become a proxy war over who gets blamed when party loyalty breaks down. Norman says voters should not be forced to “settle for a candidate” backed by major special interests, while Nordone’s supporters have argued Republicans should unite behind the nominee.

Reddit commenters, however, frequently rejected the idea that Norman deserved praise simply because his criticism happened to align with theirs.

One user wrote that Norman had “nothing to lose now by growing a backbone.” Another said they supported “any sort of conservative infighting like this” if it damaged Republican unity.

That is a very different reaction from the heroic rebel narrative Norman might prefer.

For some South Carolina voters, this is not Ralph Norman finally becoming the voice of reason. It is two factions of the same party tearing into each other after a bitter primary, with Democrats watching the damage pile up.

And with Nordone locked in a close race against Annie Andrews, that internal feud could matter far beyond the comment section.

Norman may be right about one thing, wrong about another, or motivated by old wounds from the runoff. But judging from the local reaction, plenty of South Carolinians are enjoying the spectacle without suddenly becoming Ralph Norman fans.
