Queen’s Domain Is One of My Favorite Games of 2026, Don’t Sleep on It

A diamond in the rough

Like finding a secret passage behind a crumbling wall, every now and again, a game comes along that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with gaming in the first place. For me, that game is Queen’s Domain. This wonderfully atmospheric indie adventure has completely sunk its hooks into me, and after spending around 12 hours exploring its mysterious world, I’m already convinced it’s one of my favorite games of 2026. Seriously, if you’re a fan of Dark Souls, King’s Field, or old-school RPGs in general, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

Ok, about 11 hours into this and it’s one of my favourite games of the year. Wonderful sense of discovery and adventure — exactly what I was hankering for. Very King’s Field with a touch of Skyrim. Great atmosphere. Really impressive for a 2-man team. Awesome job @QueensDomain_ pic.twitter.com/urkW8CtAyI

What really makes the game tick is its wonderful sense of discovery and adventure. There’s something incredibly satisfying about wandering off the beaten path, stumbling upon hidden secrets, and never quite knowing what’s waiting around the next corner. Its excellent level design makes exploration a joy, with cleverly interconnected areas and hidden pathways that reward your curiosity. Rather than holding your hand, Queen’s Domain encourages you to explore, experiment, and piece things together for yourself. It’s that old-school sense of wonder that keeps pulling me back for just one more hour.

Another thing I absolutely love about Queen’s Domain is its progression system. Not only can you level up your character, but you can also upgrade your weapons as you use them. Better still, maxing out many of these weapons causes them to transform into even more powerful armaments, giving you another reason to keep experimenting with your arsenal. For instance, the Rusty Shortsword you start the game with ultimately transforms into an even more powerful Sipeha’s Twisted Heart when it’s fully maxed out. Pretty cool, right? It’s a wonderfully addictive little system that makes every upgrade feel earned and worthwhile.

And did I mention that Queen’s Domain is absolutely massive? For around £15 (roughly $20), you’re getting an adventure that could easily keep you busy for 50 to 60 hours if you’re determined to explore every nook and cranny. That’s an astonishing amount of bang for your buck, especially when you consider that this sprawling RPG was created by a team of just two people. If that doesn’t get you fizzing at the bunghole, I don’t know what will.

Round this out with some really cool monster designs, a huge menagerie of beasties, a multitude of dastardly bosses, and some stunning retro visuals, and you have one of the most charming and downright addictive RPGs I’ve played in years.

There’s something truly special about Queen’s Domain, and in an age when so many games are desperate to hold your hand and point you toward the next objective, it’s incredibly refreshing to play something that trusts you to find your own way. In fact, it reminds me of that magical feeling I had when Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls first burst onto the scene, when every discovery felt meaningful, every victory felt earned, and the world itself was one enormous mystery waiting to be unraveled.

Games like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, they deserve to be celebrated. Queen’s Domain is an absolute gem, and I genuinely can’t wait to see what secrets it has left in store for me.
