Michael Jackson’s estate is worth billions on paper. His daughter says the trust he built for his children has never received its funding, and she wants $600 million moved into it now.
The California filing landed October 29 in a Los Angeles court, per People and Rolling Stone, and it reads like a demand letter 17 years in the making. Paris Jackson, 28, is asking a judge to order $600 million transferred from her father’s estate into the Michael Jackson Family Trust, the vehicle meant to provide for her and her brothers, Prince and Bigi.
The petition’s central line is built to sting: “More than 17 years after his passing, [Michael Jackson]’s family trust remains unfunded.” It goes further, accusing executor John Branca of holding an “iron grip” over the inheritance, and it lays the blame plainly: “Executors, however, have never presented any plan for funding the Michael Jackson Family Trust to the Court. That needs to change.“
Her math is the headline number. The estate has been valued by its own executors at $2 billion to $3 billion, and her attorneys say roughly $600 million sits in distributable cash after potential liabilities. The trust terms, per her petition, call for income at 21 and principal at 30. Of the siblings’ 21st birthdays: “Those dates have all long passed.” Prince turns 30 in February.
The estate fired back without softening a word. “The claim that the executor has withheld or ‘cut’ payments is a complete fabrication,” a spokesperson said, adding that more than $200 million has been distributed to or for the beneficiaries and that “None of his children receive a distribution until they are in their 30s.” The estate blames an unresolved IRS dispute, originally seeking about $700 million, that “has not been settled.“
Her camp answered the answer. “The Estate is once again deflecting from its own incompetence,” Paris’ spokesperson told People.
This is not her first round, and she has already won one. In May, a judge sustained her objection and ordered $625,000 in bonuses paid to outside law firms returned to the estate. She is also moving to cut Branca’s fee from 15 percent to 10 percent. Co-executor John McClain died in May, leaving Branca alone at the controls.
The Hearing Is Set. The Fans Already Ruled.
A judge takes up the petition on December 4. The internet did not wait. The estate’s defenders made the business case: “John Branca is the reason why the estate is so wealthy. He turned a 500 million dollar debt into a 2 billion dollar profit.” Her side answered with legacy: “Michael would have wanted everything for his children, and them only.” The simplest support needed eight words: “Good for her! 17 years is a long time.” And the fan section kept it short: “GET THEM PARIS!!” The ugliest corner of the thread went somewhere else.
The King of Pop left an empire. His daughter is asking where her share of it went.
