PlayStation‘s Remote Play capabilities may seem like a superfluous addition to how you can play your PS4 games to some, but those who have tried it regard it as extremely convenient and fun to use.
As a part of the PS4’s most recent update, Remote Play capability has now been extended to iOS devices. That’s right—now you can play your PS4 games on your iPhone as long as you have a solid internet connection. The PS4 Remote Play app is now available for free in the App Store.
With the app, users can control their PS4, join voice chats using their phone’s microphone, and even enter text on their console by using the keyboard on their mobile device. All you need to get started with PS4 Remote Play is iOS 2.1 or later, an active PlayStation Network account, and a home WiFi network. According to the app notes, Remote Play functionality cannot be used over a mobile WiFi connection and does not work with a DualShock 4 controller. (The Remote Play app makes use of an on-screen controller.)
To use Remote Play for iOS, Sony recommends that you use an iPhone 7, iPad sixth generation, iPad Pro second generation, or a more recent iOS-capable device. Not all PS4 titles will be supported with the Remote Play app.
It’s not advisable to play games with precision timing involved (ie. “Soulsborne” games), but many who have tested the app say that it was a relatively lag-free experience with a good internet connection.
Before this update, PlayStation Remote Play was compatible with Andriod devices, Mac and Windows PC, and PlayStation Vita.
