Game of Thrones, HBO’S TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, has gone from strength to strength with each new season. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is set to begin April 14th this year.
HBO has taken the opportunity to promote the highly anticipated TV series with their official Season 8 trailer. It appears to be a huge hit already with the trailer breaking an HBO viewership record already.
Previously, the record for views in 24 hours was held by the Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer. Managing to attract an impressive 61 million views in a single day of release. This number has been shattered though with the Season 8 trailer managing to bring it a staggering 81 million views in the same time frame. That’s 33% more views than its predecessor. It’s clear the hype for Game of Thrones‘ final season is huge.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, executive producer Bryan Cogman gave details on what fans can expect from the final season:
“It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death. “It’s an incredibly emotional, haunting, bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [author George RR Martin] set out to do โ which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”

It’s also available to stream on both of HBO’s primary streaming platforms, HBO Go and HBO Now. HBO Go is included with HBO’s cable package whilst HBO Now is a premium streaming service that costs $15 a month. UK viewers can either watch the simulcast at 2 AM or on the following Monday evening when it’ll re-run at 9 PM.
