An official Borderlands 3 reveal has been a dream for years now. At almost every big-time gaming event, whether that be E3 or The Game Awards, fans of the series have hoped for some type of news about a new title in the series. It appears that this dream may be coming true this month. Via Gearbox Software’s official Twitter account, the developer teased a big announcement for their PAX East appearance:

The setting in the image certainly looks like it was ripped right out of the Borderlands universe and the most intriguing aspect is barely visible in the tweet. If you look top right of the image, you would spot “Exit 3”. Part of the number is actually cut off, but one can only speculate that Gearbox Software is just teasing the next installment of the Borderlands franchise at PAX East.
Here’s a description for Gearbox’s panel at PAX East 2019 (courtesy of Polygon):
“This is your opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing, along with the latest news and updates from the makers of Borderlands, Battleborn, Brothers in Arms, and more! We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don’t miss out!”
If a Borderlands 3 announcement is truly in the cards for Gearbox Software this March, the game would most definitely be near the top of many gamers’ most anticipated games to watch out for. The loot-based action RPG series has been widely praised for its high-octane gameplay and hilariously eccentric characters. The last major game in this series was Borderlands 2, which released back in 2012. The loot-based RPG genre has been opening up over the last few years with Destiny, Tom Clancy’s The Division, and most recently Anthem. Borderlands 3 would definitely have some competition. But, this is a series that hasn’t let gamers down yet and one that has the tools to once again be at the top of the loot-based shooter genre.
Of course, since this isn’t an official announcement and we won’t know for sure until Gearbox’s panel at PAX East March 28th, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt.
