Good news, whodunit fans! The good folks at Dark Horse Comics will be bringing us the manga adaptation of Danganronpa: The Animation.
This particular graphic novel is a four issue series that featured in Kadokawa’s Shonen Ace magazine and ended back in 2014. We will be seeing the first of the series in March 2016. Danganronpa: The Animation follows a group of high school students, each one with a powerful and unique talent of their own. At the command of Monokuma (the monotone bear in the image above), the group of 14 students is locked inside the school and told to assassinate one another without being caught.
Danganronpa started its life as a Japanese PSP game in 2010, then as a Vita game in 2014. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc puts the player into the role of Makoto Naegi, an otherwise average student who is chosen through a raffle to attend the prestigious Hope’s Peak Academy. There, the player finds themselves in an Ace Attorney style game where they live a “normal life”, evidence is searched for and trials are held to determine each victim’s killer.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair was the next game in the series. It was released for Japanese PSP first, then brought to Vita in the same way as the first game. Game play stays largely the same as Trigger Happy Havoc, but with added elements in the trial modes, a new location in the form of Jabberwock Island and a new group of students.
Danganronpa is a “mature” rated series. The games are produced by Spike Chunsoft. The manga adaption will be released March 2016.
