Netflix has released the first trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. You can see the full trailer down below:
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a 10-episode prequel series to Frank Oz and Jim Henson’s 1982 film, The Dark Crystal. Set in the far distant past, the original 1982 movie revolved around a Gelfling named Jen (basically an elf) as he attempts to save his world by finding a shard to the powerful Dark Crystal and stopping the tyrants known as the Skeksis once and for all.
In an attempt to stay faithful to the source material of the 1982 film, Netflix has opted to use puppets instead of all CG characters. Here’s the official synopsis for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance:
“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.”
Age of Resistance stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, Fast and Furious), and Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass, Split). Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), Mark Strong (Shazam), Simon Pegg (Star Trek), and Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will also have some roles throughout the prequel series as well.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will release all 10 episodes on Netflix August 30th, 2019.
