With Nintendo’s Switch 2’s announcement on the horizon, fans are searching for everything and anything they can about the device. The latest information to be unveiled came in the form of prototype leaks from the factory reportedly creating them. Now, it looks like we’ve gotten our hands on some new information that Nintendo filed a new device with the FCC. So far, all signs point to the device being an accessory for the Switch 2.
There is a lot of important information about the documents filed with the Office of Engineering and Technology. The more important details include the fact that it has a CLO-001 model number, which is the first of its kind, and is listed as a wireless device that can be plugged in via USB-C. I’d like to assume it’s a controller, but the documentation explicitly says it is not.
Switch 2 Accessories Might Be On Their Way
The Switch 2 looks to be Nintendo’s ultimate iteration of the Switch family of consoles. According to the leaked prototype images, we should be getting two different sizes (and possibly resolutions) of the console on the launch with much sturdier Joy-Cons. Considering that we should receive two Joy-Cons with the console, it isn’t easy to imagine what a day-one accessory would be.
My money is on this accessory, which is either a Joy-Con charger or a camera that’s been rumored to be a console feature. The console doesn’t feature a camera, and the device has been a staple among other Nintendo hardware devices such as the DS and the Wii U, so it would be no surprise if it makes an appearance once again, especially on launch. Unfortunately, a Switch camera sounds like exactly the kind of device that Nintendo would launch on day one as an integral aspect of the hardware only to have it removed a year or two later.
