‘A Perfect Picture To Encapsulate How We All Feel’: Alabama GameStop Sign Comes Crashing Down, ‘What a Metaphor’

It’s a sign!

A GameStop employee in Alabama found himself quite lucky after both he and his car survived the store’s giant sign falling in front of the entrance. Technically, he was inside when it happened, and ‘it came VERY close to hitting his car’ parked out front. However, the chances of such a dangerous incident happening at all, considering he had to walk underneath it to go inside, weren’t zero. Needless to say, he was left flabbergasted.

“We’re in the middle of a massive heat wave and looking at the screws that were holding it in place, it looks like the heat caused it to expand and come loose,” Mondo-Butter-21 explained in his post on r/mildlyinfuriating. He also posted photos of the sign to r/GameStop, where the picture ironically became the subreddit’s new banner. OP expressed how shaken he was from what happened: “This genuinely scared me into looking for another job, cause holy cow. You can’t deny what a metaphor that’s become.”

Reddit Says the Alabama GameStop Sign Falling Down Reflects Reality

Many people, too, found the sign falling down terrifying yet symbolic, considering the current state GameStop has been in for the past several years. “Congratulations! You posted a perfect picture to encapsulate how we all feel,” remarked a commenter. While people might see Mondo-Butter-21 as fortunate for not having been injured in the incident, it’s not like he’s been having a good time up until now.

For almost a month, the employee claims that the A/C unit in the store has been broken and hasn’t been repaired. “I’ve been trying to figure out what OSHA law that violates,” he wrote. His management doesn’t seem too caring either, based on what he was told after the sign fell down: “The REAL mildly infuriating part was having to pick it up and get it into the back because we were told, ‘If someone steals it, it’s on you.’”

“They’re discontinuing physical signs and switching purely to digital signs,” laughed a Redditor, referring to Sony announcing the cancellation of its physical disc production for PlayStation. “Kinda fitting, you can still make out that it’s GameStop but it’s falling apart,” added another. With GameStop reportedly closing hundreds of stores across the country, a sign falling down, though comical, could be a very telling indication of what’s to come.
