Indiana Man Claims $4,260 Coin Bought From TikTok Store Was Stolen During Transit: ‘You probably got scammed’

Something doesn’t add up

An Indiana man went to social media claiming a very expensive coin he bought had been stolen during delivery.

Owner of Hauk Coins & Collectibles, Hauk shared the beaten package on his official TikTok account, Hauk_Collectibles. In his video, he claims, “USPS fraud… They stole a coin worth $4260 from us…” He adds, “This is why I do not ship post office anymore, and I refuse to because of the fraud.”

Package in hand, Hauk turns it over, revealing all the damage it endured while it was in transit. The box was “ripped open” and then “retaped” before getting shipped to him. He had made the purchase from the TikTok Shop.

Furthermore, the package wasn’t actually empty when he opened it. It was as if whoever opened it threw a bunch of unwanted junk into the box. He was given an Amazon gift card, baseball cards, a business card, an unrelated receipt from Ebay, stickers, even a letter thanking the buyer for a completely unrelated purchase.

Hauk once again places the blame on USPS, adding a scathing review of their business. “Guess what? They will 100% take your extra insurance that you pay for an item, signature required. And then they won’t pay you out on a coin because they don’t cover gold coins, silver coins, bullion—any of that crap.” He calls for USPS to do better or else they “might as well go out of business.”

Viewers Online Speculate on What Happened to Hauk’s Expensive Coin

In addition to coming up with their own reasons for the missing coin, commenters took turns placing some of the blame on Hauk, insisting this could have been avoided. “Something that cost that much you didn’t put insurance on it that’s diabolical,” wrote one user.

Another user suggested the coin may not have been there to begin with. “You probably got scammed. I’ve seen one other video with the same cards in it,” the user speculated. Like the Facebook Marketplace, there’s a chance you might buy something that isn’t on the up-and-up on the TikTok Shop.

However, Hauk revealed in the comments the shop he bought the coin from was a “regular seller” to him. “The seller was tagged and I respect them as they sell millions. We have done tons of business,” Hauk wrote in the comments. In other words, the alleged theft would have happened during delivery.

Others tried to be helpful to Hauk rather than drag him through the mud online. “I’d still pursue it. Maybe file a police report? Talk to the postmaster?” a TikTok user recommended. They also brought up a good point: “They take pictures of the packages at various points during transport. I’d request all of them.”

Hauk has not shared in the comments if he’ll file a police report, but given the circumstances it may be worth it. A missing $20 item is one thing, but a coin that expensive? Surely he should be compensated in some way, right?
