Never trust children when you’re in a suspicious situation. The directors of the last two Scream movies, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, have dropped a trailer for their latest release: a ballerina vampire movie titled Abigail. The pic sees the both filmmakers reunite with Melissa Barrera. She is joined by Kathryn Newton, Giancarlo Esposito, Dan Stevens, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Alisha Weir.
The film follows a group of criminals (Newton, Barrera, Stevens, Catlett, Durand, Cloud) hired to kidnap a young girl (Weir). Their boss (Esposito) tells them to watch her overnight while they wait to collect the $50 million reward. When she breaks free, she is not just looking for revenge but wants a snack from her kidnappers. From there, we get all sorts of vampire-centered carnage.
Abigail Trailer Reunites Scream Directors With Melissa Barrera in Ballerina Vampire Movie
The trailer for Abigail is coming off the recent firing of Barrera from Scream 7. She had been posting on social media about the ongoing attacks from Israel against the Palestinian people. SpyGlass found it to be “anti-Semitic,” leading to her being removed from the project. Regardless, she has been front and center in the marketing for her upcoming vampire flick alongside the other major stars.
The other unfortunate part of the casting is Cloud, who died from a drug overdose last year. The Euphoria star had filmed multiple projects before his death. This will be one of the final times we see him on screen, including Freaky Tales, a drama featuring Pedro Pascal later this year.
The release of the trailer for Abigail shows the directors are not stopping with horror anytime soon. They helmed the project from a script written by previous collaborator Guy Busick, who wrote their previous projects with both Scream installments and Ready or Not. He was joined by writer Stephen Shields, who wrote Evil Dead Rise director’s The Hole in the Ground.
Abigail will unleash her fangs on April 19.
