‘Abusers Stick Up for Abusers’: Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan Faces Backlash After Calling Max Miller ‘a Good Man’ and His Abuse Allegations ‘a Family Matter’

You really can’t defend that

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan defended fellow Republican Max Miller during a CNN interview about abuse allegations involving Miller’s family. Jordan called Miller “a good man” and described the accusations as “a family matter.” CNN then detailed allegations involving Miller’s ex-wife and then-toddler daughter. The network also contrasted Jordan’s defense with his earlier criticism of Democratic candidate Graham Platner.

CNN asked whether Miller should resign from Congress, noting that he denies the allegations. Jordan said voters in Miller’s district should decide his political future. He added that he hoped Miller would win reelection.

Jordan said he had recently campaigned for Miller in northern Ohio. CNN then outlined the allegations against the congressman.

The network said Miller allegedly threw hot water on his ex-wife and held a gun to her head. It also cited claims that he pushed her against a wall and struck her. CNN further said Miller allegedly fractured his daughter’s collarbone and bruised her shoulder.

Jordan interrupted while CNN listed the accusations. He said he had not heard or read those details.

CNN then played Jordan’s earlier Newsmax remarks about Platner. In that clip, Jordan accused Democrats of prioritizing political power. He also accused them of opposing anyone who challenged President Trump.

CNN asked why that criticism did not apply to Republicans supporting Miller. Jordan said he did not know the earlier question’s context.

He argued that his comments concerned Platner’s political positions, not the abuse allegations. Jordan described those positions as “anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, pro-Nazi” and referenced Platner’s tattoo.

Jordan denied answering specifically about Platner’s alleged abuse. He ended by saying Democrats, not Republicans, removed Platner from the ballot.

Jim Jordan’s Max Miller Defense Draws Double-Standard Backlash

Jordan’s response prompted criticism over partisan standards and his continued support for Miller.

One X user wrote, “Abusers stick up for abusers.” Another focused on Jordan’s wording: “‘This is a family matter’ — that’s what the police used to say when domestic violence was treated with a shrug.”

A separate response drew a contrast with Jordan’s past criticism: “It wasn’t a ‘family matter’ when Gym was criticizing Swalwell and Platner…”

Another user pointed to Jordan’s final argument: “Yeah it was the Democrats that removed him. That’s called holding him accountable which Gym will never do with a Republican.”

Miller’s reelection bid remains unresolved. Jordan said voters in his district should decide his future.
