Ever since Warframe introduced its most alien enemies yet, the Sentients, back in 2015, many players have been asking whether they’ll get to see where they came from. Now, 10 years later, the game is finally ready to take players to Tau, the homeworld of the Sentients, and you won’t be just going there, you’ll also be fighting wars and committing sweet, sweet war crimes with your good old Warframe builds.
Tau is Here
Tau is essentially a planet outside the solar system not unlike the ones Warframe players have grown accustomed to. The Orokin Empire then sent machine life forms called the Sentients to terraform Tau. As most of us Warframe players know, the Orokin Empire collapsed, leaving their sub-factions behind along with a huge power vacuum, and the Sentients of Tau are among those.
Now, Warframe is poised to introduce this new quest to players this year, likely near the end of 2025. The gameplay, as showcased in the 2025 TennoCon, shows the following.
- A new narrative chapter and quest called “The Old Peace“.
- New missions and content.
- An updated appearance for the Operator.
- Focus system expansion.
- New corresponding Warframes, weapons, and other accessories or cosmetics.
As you can expect, the new area or content island will likely follow the same format as other Warframe updates or content, where players will need to build up their reputation (likely with the Tau faction) to unlock the rewards. New missions will also take place within the Tau area.
How Does Tau Fit Into the Story?
Now, for those expecting this foray into Tau to be a full-scale retribution or war waged by the Tenno, it’s not like that yet. This venture into Tau is a glimpse of the past, where the Lotus or Natah will show you and let you play a significant chunk of Tau history in an era dubbed as the “Old Peace.”
It’s likely the period either before the Old War or the time when the Orokin tried to wipe out the Sentients using the Infested and the Warframes (only for it to backfire against the Orokin). The Old Peace will then pave the way for the 2026 Tau narrative and content update.
So far, Warframe lore has been mostly vague regarding its past and direction, but this time around, it’s about to become clearer as you get to relive a distant past and a rather important point of the story.
