An Alaska man has everyone shocked by revealing he keeps thousands of bees in a unique place: his living room. The man has the hive set up on his coffee table, stating, “It’s like an aquarium, but instead of fish, it has bees.”

The reporter for NBC states, “It just blows my mind.” This refers to the hive sitting across from the man’s chair. In the video, there is a clear screen that shows the bees inside. The Alaska man seems entirely comfortable with, and doesn’t seem to have concerns about, spending his days with bees. It began with “a rough idea and some rough plans.” Even the table was built specifically for the hive, which is “why they match each other.” The hive is also custom-built with “a direct path outdoors through a custom tube.”

It’s not just him who is at home with the bees. The Alaska man’s wife also enjoys their company. He states, “My wife likes to sit here and read.” Furthermore, she likes listening to the buzzing and appreciates the soothing sounds they make. To her, the “low constant humming is very comforting.” His morning routine consists of watching them live their lives. He explains, “They’re storing nectar, they’re storing pollen, they’re feeding brood.” For him, this is a rare opportunity. He shares, “This is a window for me into what my other hives are doing.” The video has steadily climbed in popularity since posting, reaching over 8,000 views after three hours.

Many Are Shocked By Alaska Man’s Bee Roommates

Some think this is a cool idea that can help him keep track of issues with his other hives. One states, “If this one starts showing signs of issues, then his other hives may have the same issue, and he can take a proactive approach to resolving it.” However, others on Instagram think the whole thing is too strange for them: “Nah, they got me [expletive] up thinking this is normal.”

Another wonders whether this will draw negative attention, saying, “It’ll be hilarious when the government decides this will be illegal.” Meanwhile, some are pointing out the irony of the living arrangement: “Most people try to get rid of bugs in their homes.” Some are concerned this may not be a suitable situation for the hive. One asks, “Don’t they need to be pollinating?” Another says, “Keeping them trapped in a box indoors is inhumane.”

There is no word on whether or not the Alaska man will add another hive to his house.
