Let’s go over all the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 and how to unlock them! After nearly 11 years, the sequel to the 2011 game Dead Island is here and brings a fine narrative with familiar yet new gameplay to enjoy the series’ zombified world once more. However, aside from the story and side quests that this game offers, there are collectibles and locked boxes that attract the player’s attention.

Where Are The Lockbox locations in Dead Island 2?

(Updated on August 27, 2024 – updated links and format)

There are 49 lockboxes in Dead Island 2 that you can find and open, each with a particular key. Now you might find the boxes yourself by searching the area. However, the game does not tell you where you can find the keys to open them! There are a total of eight regions that these lockboxes are located in, and here’s how you can find all of them with their keys.

Notice: You need to progress through the game’s main story to find some of the following lockboxes. New enemy types and visiting some locations might also require progression in side quests.

1. Venice Beach – 10 Lockboxes

Burger 66 Staff Locker

Venice Beach DI 2

The first one in our lockbox locations list in Dead Island 2 is the 66 Burger Staff Locker. The location above shows the exact location of the locker, but if you want to find the key, you need to kill the zombie holding it! The zombie’s name is Burger 66 Server, and you need to kill this undead Burger 66 staff to achieve the key. It’s a Slobber wandering around the police station in Venice Beach.

Rose’s Storage Box

Venice Beach DI 2

Head to the location above, and you’ll find the Roses Tattoo. You see, Rose was a Tattoo artist, but you can’t find her alive anywhere in her place. But if you go down the street for a bit, there’s a screamer called “Rose” — that’s her! Kill her with a cold heart, and you’ll obtain her storage box’s key. This lockbox is in the place that you visited the first.

Officer’s Secure Lockbox

Venice Beach DI 2

Regardless if Officer Mckenzie was a good man, we want the key to his Secure Lockbox. You can find him in the area you see in the image above. Mckenzie is a Walker zombie that you can easily kill, and he’s found near the police station in Venice Beach. Remember, as finding the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 is easy, finding the key requires completing the main story and some side missions. For this one, you need to finish the Coast Guardian side mission in Dead Island 2.

Tasty Donut Store Safe

Venice Beach DI 2

You can find the Tasty Donut Store in the location above. However, to access the safe inside, you need to kill the boss! Fortunately, this boss isn’t going to challenge you to a tough boss fight. It’s just the store’s boss turned into a Slobber, and you can kill him easily with some close-range shotgun shots.

Venice Lifeguard’s Safe

Venice Beach DI 2

For the next in the list of lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in the Venice Beach area, head to the beach itself! Here you can spot the safe in the image above, and if you go near the sea, you’ll find a lifeguard named “Brody.” He likely saved lives before turning into a Runner zombie. Just kill him quick and pick up the key; he was a dead man walking before you shot him anyways, right?

Gang Green Store Safe

Venice Beach DI 2

West of Venice Beach’s police station, you’ll find a walker named “Roach.” This individual somehow has the key to the lockbox you can see in the image above. Pick the key and go to the lockbox location above to find the Gang Green Store. The safe is inside, and it’s the sixth of our lockbox locations in Dead Island 2.

Lt. Land’s Case

Venice Beach DI 2

The above location shows the place for Lt. Land’s case. However, the Lieutenant himself is waiting for you in a marine boat near the beach in this area. Jump inside the place, and kill him to obtain the key.

Skate Things Store Safe

Venice Beach DI 2

The Skate Things Store is shown in the location above, and there’s a safe in it that you can open. After all, rummaging through dead people’s safes and boxes for valuables is a normal practice in the post-apocalypse. Now head to the location above to find the eighth one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 inside a skate store.

To find its key, you need to go outside in front of the Gang Green Store, and you’ll find a zombie named “Ollie.” He’s a Runner, and it’s hard to guess why he has the key to the Skate Things Store’s safe. Maybe he owns the store, or he was just a working staff; it doesn’t matter to a zombie anyways!

West Coast Weights Cooler

Venice Beach DI 2

It’s indeed questionable why an essential item is in a cooler. Regardless, travel to the location above and look for Jake Jones around the marked area. He has the key to unlock the cooler.

Delgado’s Supply Case

Venice Beach DI 2

Pvt. Delgado is somewhere near the location above, and you need to kill him just like the other zombies to obtain the required key. The image above shows the last one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in the Venice Beach area.

Take extra caution fighting him, and try to end his party before he ends yours. After killing this big guy, you’ll obtain the key to the Party Contraband Case, and the prize is yours!

Secure Bio Container

The Secure Bio Container can be found inside the estate in Beverly Hills. The location above shows the exact area to find this lockbox, but you will need to find SSG. Hernandez to open it. Fortunately, the loot in this box is well worth the effort to unlock it.

For the fourth one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2, we have the Family Garage in the image above. However, the key is with a zombie named “Nosy Neighbor,” which is definitely telling!

All Lockbox Locations in Dead Island 2
