Let’s go over all the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 and how to unlock them! After nearly 11 years, the sequel to the 2011 game Dead Island is here and brings a fine narrative with familiar yet new gameplay to enjoy the series’ zombified world once more. However, aside from the story and side quests that this game offers, there are collectibles and locked boxes that attract the player’s attention.
Where Are The Lockbox locations in Dead Island 2?
(Updated on August 27, 2024 – updated links and format)
There are 49 lockboxes in Dead Island 2 that you can find and open, each with a particular key. Now you might find the boxes yourself by searching the area. However, the game does not tell you where you can find the keys to open them! There are a total of eight regions that these lockboxes are located in, and here’s how you can find all of them with their keys.
Notice: You need to progress through the game’s main story to find some of the following lockboxes. New enemy types and visiting some locations might also require progression in side quests.
1. Venice Beach – 10 Lockboxes
Burger 66 Staff Locker
The first one in our lockbox locations list in Dead Island 2 is the 66 Burger Staff Locker. The location above shows the exact location of the locker, but if you want to find the key, you need to kill the zombie holding it! The zombie’s name is Burger 66 Server, and you need to kill this undead Burger 66 staff to achieve the key. It’s a Slobber wandering around the police station in Venice Beach.
Rose’s Storage Box
Head to the location above, and you’ll find the Roses Tattoo. You see, Rose was a Tattoo artist, but you can’t find her alive anywhere in her place. But if you go down the street for a bit, there’s a screamer called “Rose” — that’s her! Kill her with a cold heart, and you’ll obtain her storage box’s key. This lockbox is in the place that you visited the first.
Officer’s Secure Lockbox
Regardless if Officer Mckenzie was a good man, we want the key to his Secure Lockbox. You can find him in the area you see in the image above. Mckenzie is a Walker zombie that you can easily kill, and he’s found near the police station in Venice Beach. Remember, as finding the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 is easy, finding the key requires completing the main story and some side missions. For this one, you need to finish the Coast Guardian side mission in Dead Island 2.
Tasty Donut Store Safe
You can find the Tasty Donut Store in the location above. However, to access the safe inside, you need to kill the boss! Fortunately, this boss isn’t going to challenge you to a tough boss fight. It’s just the store’s boss turned into a Slobber, and you can kill him easily with some close-range shotgun shots.
Venice Lifeguard’s Safe
For the next in the list of lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in the Venice Beach area, head to the beach itself! Here you can spot the safe in the image above, and if you go near the sea, you’ll find a lifeguard named “Brody.” He likely saved lives before turning into a Runner zombie. Just kill him quick and pick up the key; he was a dead man walking before you shot him anyways, right?
Gang Green Store Safe
West of Venice Beach’s police station, you’ll find a walker named “Roach.” This individual somehow has the key to the lockbox you can see in the image above. Pick the key and go to the lockbox location above to find the Gang Green Store. The safe is inside, and it’s the sixth of our lockbox locations in Dead Island 2.
Lt. Land’s Case
The above location shows the place for Lt. Land’s case. However, the Lieutenant himself is waiting for you in a marine boat near the beach in this area. Jump inside the place, and kill him to obtain the key.
Skate Things Store Safe
The Skate Things Store is shown in the location above, and there’s a safe in it that you can open. After all, rummaging through dead people’s safes and boxes for valuables is a normal practice in the post-apocalypse. Now head to the location above to find the eighth one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 inside a skate store.
To find its key, you need to go outside in front of the Gang Green Store, and you’ll find a zombie named “Ollie.” He’s a Runner, and it’s hard to guess why he has the key to the Skate Things Store’s safe. Maybe he owns the store, or he was just a working staff; it doesn’t matter to a zombie anyways!
West Coast Weights Cooler
It’s indeed questionable why an essential item is in a cooler. Regardless, travel to the location above and look for Jake Jones around the marked area. He has the key to unlock the cooler.
Delgado’s Supply Case
Pvt. Delgado is somewhere near the location above, and you need to kill him just like the other zombies to obtain the required key. The image above shows the last one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in the Venice Beach area.
2. Beverly Hills – 7 Lockboxes
Party Contraband Case
If you head to the location above, you’ll find out that there was a huge party there. All the party members are dead, and they have left an important case for you to open. However, the key is with a Crusher zombie named “Party Bouncer.” This guy is tough, and you can find him right near this lockbox. Take extra caution fighting him, and try to end his party before he ends yours. After killing this big guy, you’ll obtain the key to the Party Contraband Case, and the prize is yours!
Secure Bio Container
The Secure Bio Container can be found inside the estate in Beverly Hills. The location above shows the exact area to find this lockbox, but you will need to find SSG. Hernandez to open it. While this zombie is a Walker, he’s deadly! Use your best weapons against Hernandez to kill him quick. This is the second lockbox location in the Beverly Hills area of Dead Island 2. Fortunately, the loot in this box is well worth the effort to unlock it.
Michael’s Safe
Go to the location above, and you’ll find a house with a safe inside. The safe belongs to a person named “Michael,” which you can find somewhere around. The zombie’s name is actually “Michael’s Protégé” for some reason. You’ll find the key after killing the zombie, and you can open the safe with it.
Family Garage Safe
For the fourth one of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2, we have the Family Garage in the image above. In the norm of finding keys for these safes, you probably think that there should be a zombie called the “Family’s Father” or something like that to kill and obtain the key. However, the key is with a zombie named “Nosy Neighbor,” which is definitely telling!
Nikki’s Bounty Reward
The location above shows the location of Nikki’s bounty reward. However, to find the key to this safe, you need to go toward the north of this location and fight a butcher named “Target Practice.” No idea who Nikki was and why the key to her safe was not with her, and you have to fight a brutal Butcher for it.
Construction Team’s Safe
Looks like there was a construction team in this area, and they also happened to have a safe! Well, people in Dead Island 2‘s narrative had valuable items in their safes. Now, after death, their stuff is up for grabs, including the construction teams!
The location of the safe is shown clearly in the image above, but for the key, you need to kill the captain. There’s a zombie around the house named “The Site Foreman,” and he drops the “Foreman’s Key” after killing him. This was the sixth of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in Beverly Hills, and there’s only one more left in this area.
Brentwood Waste Bin
If you go to the location above, you’ll find a simple bin. Now, it’s undoubtedly odd why anyone would lock a bin. Nonetheless, by the game’s rules, you need to find the proper zombie to kill and obtain its key. Go outside the area to encounter a zombie called the “Brentwood Staff.” Kill this Screamer, and the key is yours.
3. Bel-Air – 5 Lockboxes
Cable Van Trunk
In Alpine Dr. Street, you’ll find a van with locked doors. Now if you look around this street, you’ll find a zombie named “The Cable Guy.” It’s curious why he wasn’t named Larry. Kill him, pick the keys, and get his story over with.
The Safe of Broseidon
Here you’ll find a lovely penthouse, suitable for weekend relaxation. Nevertheless, it’s the end of the world, and the penthouse is flooded with zombies. Search the area to find an undead named “Goat Pen Brock” for the key to open The Safe of Broseidon. You can obtain valuable rewards from this vault!
Curtis’ Valuables Safe
You can find Curtis’ safe in the image above, near the exact location you found the previous two safes. However, all lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 have a key keeper. This time, you have to kill a Screamer called “Crystal The Lawyer” to obtain the safe’s key.
Eddie’s Toolbox
The location of this lockbox is shown in the image above. However, to find the key, you must head to Access RD 781 Street. Here, you should be looking for a house with a big pool in front of it. Now if you get inside from the south entry stairs, you’ll spot Eddie himself! Kill the zombie named “Green Thumb Eddie” to obtain the key.
Coach Car Trunk
This is one of the easiest of all lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 that you can find. Look at the right side of the house where you killed Eddie to spot a locked door. Now, if you just wander around the same area, you’ll see a zombie called the “Coach Ace. Send him off to the underworld for the key.
4. Halperin Hotel – 6 Lockboxes
Halperin Security Safe
You can find a small security building in the location above, but as the game rules go, the officer himself is dead. He’s a walker named “Hotel Security.” You can find him near the garage.
Military Courier’s Case
Of all the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2, this one is one of the easiest. Just head to the location above, and you’ll find the Military Courier’s Case. Look next to it to find a military zombie with the key you need.
Military Supplies Case
At the end of Lacuna Avenue, you’ll find this lockbox. You probably see a zombie called the “Drill Sergeant” along the way. Kill this dude, and obtain the key.
Poolside Bio Container
Not all the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 have a guardian or something that prevents you from accessing the area. But to reach the Poolside Bio Container, you should destroy the nests surrounding it before the approach. As for the key, you need to go to the east side of the Halperin Hotel’s map to find a slobbering zombie called the “Sunbather.”
Laundry Room Locker
The location of this lockbox is clear. However, the key is somewhere outside of the building. A zombie called the “Karaoke Bridesmaid” is near the site, and she holds the key to the Laundry Room Locker.
Fancy Leather Trunk
Remember where you found the Military Courier’s Case? Head to that location and go right to see a destroyed elevator. Climb your way to the top, and you’ll reach the second floor. Right beside the lockbox, you’ll find a zombie called “Mutated Guest.” It’s a noisy guest; kill him, and the prize is yours!
5. Monarch Studios – 3 Lockboxes
Security Guard’s Cooler
First off, head to the action alley to find “Monarch Security.” Like any other undead individual, this fellow isn’t in the mood to chat. Kill him and bring the key to the location above to unlock the Security Guard’s Cooler lockbox.
Space Fox 2250 Prop
Head to the location above, and you’ll find a big box with tons of valuable loot inside! However, you need to find a zombie called the “Space Fox Prop Master” nearby and kill him to obtain the key.
Kelli Jo’s Suitcase
Kelli Jo is the guy keeping the keys to this lockbox. Go to Shutterbug Avenue, and you’ll easily find him. He has a hat, and “Kelli Jo Longeteig” is written above his head. This is the last of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 in the Monarch Studios area.
6. Hollywood Boulevard – 4 Lockboxes
Theater Box Office Safe
Here in the all-lockbox locations guide in Dead Island 2, we have Hollywood Boulevard. Now if you head to the location in the image above, you’ll find a safe in a small building. Now if you’re looking for the key, you need to find a good-looking zombie named “Nick The Usher.”
Starla’s Award Show Safe
If you head to the west side of the marked location in the image above, you’ll find Starla Taylor-Moore. This tough zombie isn’t a celebrity anymore and has the key you’re looking for.
Metro Ticket Office Sale
Finding this lockbox’s location is easy, but the challenge is finding the right zombie with the keys with him. This is while you can’t find a key or a certain zombie for the Metro Ticket Office Sale’s lockbox! Unlike all the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2, this one is slightly different. What you need to do, is to look for the power boxes near the office’s door. There are two boxes outside the office in the same area that you have to shoot. The last one is inside the small room you want to unlock. You need to head outside the office, look inside to shoot the last power box, and open the door.
Eschaton Staff Safe
Most of the lockbox locations in Dead Island 2 need you to complete some story or side quest missions to unlock. But for the Eschaton Staff Safe, you need to fully complete the main story objectives. The safe’s location is shown in the image above, but for the key, you need to head all the way down the stairs till you see a weird-looking zombie named “Eschaton Doctor.” This zombie doctor has the key you’re looking for.
7. The Metro – 2 Lockboxes
Patient’s Lockbox
“Derailed Patient” is the zombie you’re looking for to unlock this lockbox. Remember to use your best weapon against this turned patient. He wasn’t medically treated well and will seriously damage you if you don’t take him out quickly with your best weapons.
Quarantined Belongings
After you complete the story mode in Dead Island 2, give the Metro area a visit. You’ll encounter a Slobber with keys to the Quarantined Belongings safe. The safe is in a wagon right where you kill the commander and has many nests surrounding it.
8. The Pier – 3 Lockboxes
Suspicious Container
This region is just like the one we saw in Venice Beach; with beach zombies and a calm sea, what a place to visit! This region has three lockbox locations in Dead Island 2. For the first one, you need to head to the image above. A zombie called the “CDC Viscera Cleaner” is on the south side of the map on the beach. You need to clean him from existence to obtain the key.
Famiglia Storage Box
Once in a while, Luigi Jr. had a pizza shop in The Pier. But as the game is Dead Island 2 and most people should be dead by the rules of zombification. As a result, he’s gone and has left the players with a storage box. The key to this box is with a zombie Luigi Jr., who’s under the dock you can spot on the map.
Lifeguard Kit Box
A guy whose zombie name is “Beach Hunk” has the key to this lockbox, and you can find him near the beach site. He’s tough, so kill him with the best you got and unlock the lockbox shown in the image above.
9. Ocean Avenue – 6 Lockboxes
Serling Reception Safe
The lockbox locations in Ocean Avenue in Dead Island 2 are easy to find, and finding their keys are even easier! Enter the building you see in the image above, and you’ll encounter a lady zombie called the “Serling Concierge.” Killing her gives you the key to unlocking the Serling Reception Safe.
Officer Wilson’s Luggage
On the north side of the Veture Walk district, you’ll find a riot named “Officer Wilson.” Unfortunately, this officer does not obey the laws anymore, and killing him is the best you can do to set him free. Afterward, pick up the key he drops and head to the location above to loot his belongings. He won’t need his stuff after dying twice!
Guest’s Keepsake Box
Remember we looted the Serling Reception’s Safe? You can loot its guest’s belongings as well! On the right side of the midst of Venture Walk Street, you’ll find an alley. Now inside this area, you can spot a place where a few zombies are wandering around doing their business behind a door. A zombie named “Serling Hotel Guest” should be among them with the key you’re looking for.
Electrician’s Toolbox
The image above shows the exact location of the Electrician’s Toolbox. However, you need to head toward the southwest side of this area’s map to find the key. A zombie named “Faulty Electrician” has the key, and you can find him in the pothole.
Newsroom Hard-Case
South of Silicon Street, you’ll find one of the last lockbox locations in the Dead Island 2 Ocean Avenue district. This building is a sort of studio for talk shows, and it seems like you need to find and kill the Talk Show’s Guest to get the key for this lockbox. It’s pretty odd why the guest has the key!
Randgate Secure Case
This is the last one of the Ocean Avenue lockbox locations in Dead Island 2. Finding it is as easy as going to the location above. However, you need to search the area on the north side of Silicon Street to find the key. This location is a parking lot, and you can enter it by going to the lower sections of it. If you look at the zombies’ names, you’ll be able to spot your key-holding target, “Randgate Staff.”
10. Brentwood Sewer – 2 Lockboxes
BWRP Staff Drawers
If you go to the Automated Hydrostatics location in the Brentwood Sewers, you’ll spot a monitoring room on its north. The lockbox is in this room, and a zombie named “Felipe The Sewer Tech” has the key to open it.
BWRP Maintenance Toolbox
This is the last of all lockbox locations in Dead Island 2, but to find its key, you need to head toward the Main Septic Tank area. You’ll spot a hideous-looking tunnel in this area with a zombie called “Maintenance Worker” inside. This guy is tough, and so are the other zombies helping him. Be very careful fighting these zombies. After you’ve obtained the key, head outside as fast as possible.
