What are all the romance options in Baldur’s Gate 3? The game is the long-awaited third entry in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series. After spending a few years in early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has now been released for PC. Like previous entries in the franchise, you can create your own player avatar that ends up being the main character in the story. Similar to past entries, there are several companions and significant characters you can potentially romance in Baldur’s Gate 3. Each romance requires you to have high approval from them.
How Romance Works in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are only a limited number of characters you can romance in Baldur’s Gate 3. To pursue a romance with a character, that character must have a high approval of you. The Approval Bar can be found below each character’s stats on the Character Sheet menu.
To raise a character’s approval of you, you must make decisions that they like. Each romantic option has its own opinions and preferences, and they will take note when you make a decision that pleases them.
For example, Shadowheart is an animal lover. If you make choices where you’re kinder to animals, her approval of you will rise, and it will become easier to romance her. The game will reference when a companion likes an option you made on the left of your screen. Only official companions will prompt a notification.
While gender doesn’t play a factor in who you can romance, your race can determine a character’s approval of you. Certain characters have prejudices towards some races. You can also potentially have multiple romantic partners in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it depends on who you romance. Some characters don’t mind you having other romances, while others will.
Head to the camp often, and you could pursue a relationship with someone if your approval is high enough.

Romancing Every Option in Baldur’s Gate 3 – Astarion
Astarion is already a flirty companion, but you can raise his approval of you by making decisions that show power and snobbery. He dislikes any decisions where you show altruism or “weakness,” like sparing enemies.
Gale
Gale appreciates intelligence, kindness, and pacificism. His approval of you will drop if you make decisions with unnecessary violence or come across as bone-headed, AKA unintelligent.
Halsin
You can’t begin romancing Halsin until sometime in Act II after completing a specific quest. Once you’ve completed the mission, and he joined your party, he prefers choices about being kind to nature and showing courage.
Karlach
Karlach loves decisions where you are brave and show off your combat skills. She also likes it when you are seizing life and aren’t embarrassed by things. She dislikes it when you make cowardly decisions or show unnecessary cruelty. Karlach will also not like any pro-Devil choices you’ll make.
Lae’zel
Lae’zel likes every pro-Gith decision or statement you make. She also approves of aggression and combat skills. Your approval bar will go down with Lae’zel if you make anti-Gith statements, don’t take the non-violent approach, and make altruistic decisions.
Minthara
Minthara is a complicated romantic partner in Baldur’s Gate 3 because it requires you to agree to help her hunt. You must be on friendly terms with the Goblins and find her at the Shattered Sanctum in Act One. Agree to help slay her enemies and hold a Goblin-theme celebration at the camp afterward. You can choose to be hers and go to bed with her at the end, but note that Wyll will leave the camp.
Shadowheart
Shadowheart approves of anti-Gith decisions and statements. She also loves it when you show kindness to animals, children, and the unfortunate. She dislikes pro-Gith decisions and empathy for wealthy people.
Wyll
Wyll is the ultimate loyal and kindhearted knight. He approves of all heroic and altruistic actions. He dislikes selfishness and working with villains. He’s staunchly anti-Devil and anti-Goblin. This is why he will leave the camp if you join forces with Minthara.
