A nighttime crash in Chicago, Illinois, has gone viral after the driver involved allegedly took off on foot. The driver reportedly worked for Amazon Flex, leaving his identifiable delivery vehicle behind as the only witness that mattered.

The video was filmed by a man who says he was nearly hit by the same vehicle moments earlier. He records himself walking toward the crash site, visibly shaken but relieved, gesturing at the damaged car and scattered debris in the street.

Alright, which one of you was it?

Speaking in Spanish, he recounts almost being struck as the vehicle veered toward him, describing the driver’s movements as reckless and saying he had to swerve out of the way to avoid being hit himself. He repeats several times that he’s glad the driver ended up crashing, framing it as a fitting outcome for someone driving so dangerously moments earlier.

By the end of the clip, he says he has calmed down but still can’t get over how close the situation came to being far worse.

According to the post, the vehicle involved belonged to an Amazon Flex driver, the company’s program that lets independent contractors use personal vehicles to deliver packages. The video shows the driver running from the scene, though viewers catch only a brief glimpse of him before he disappears from view.

The video was originally shared on Instagram by @ochoatattooo and later reshared on Reddit by r/AmazonFlexDrivers.

Internet Reacts to Illinois Amazon Flex Driver’s Hit-and-Run

The video drew a wave of reactions focused less on sympathy and more on how poorly the driver had handled the situation. One commenter predicted the driver’s employer would be the one to identify him, writing, “Amazon will tell on him.”

Another questioned the logic of running from the scene at all, writing, “I never understand the running. I know you’re not thinking straight at that moment but it should only take you 5 or 6 strides before you realize your identity is all over that wrecked vehicle that the police will soon be looking through.” A third tried to make sense of how the crash happened, writing, “How *expletive* did he do that? It looks like he tried back up at 40mph on the wrong side of the street while trying to parallel park.”

Other commenters speculated about the driver’s insurance status and the evidence he left behind. One wrote, “I bet his car is 100% without insurance,” while another put it sarcastically: “Sir, you left your evidence behind.”

Amazon Flex drivers use their own personal vehicles for deliveries, meaning the crashed car in the video would likely be tied directly to the driver’s name, registration, and Amazon account, making anonymity difficult regardless of how quickly he left the scene.

No injuries were reported in connection with the crash, and it remains unclear whether the driver has since been identified or held responsible for the damage allegedly caused during the incident.
