Amazon Prime was initially launched in 2005 and for the cost of $119 (£79 in the UK) provides customers with plenty of benefits such as movie streaming, music, and free delivery. Amazon has released their information for the best of prime 2018. Acting as a great advertisement for the service it gives details on what Amazon prime users streamed, read, bought and played in the last year in the period from October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018. Some of the facts make for interesting reading, others make me jealous I don’t live in the US.

On the shopping side of things, 2 billion products were ordered around the world for delivery in one day or faster. A statistic I know for a fact that I helped. Speaking of faster delivery Amazon have delivered items in 9 minutes, which boggles the mind. All in 9 minutes they delivered a Nintendo SNES classic to a customer in Kirkland, WA, Excedrin & a massage ball to a customer in Los Angeles, CA, as well as a loop backpack to a customer in Charlotte, NC. Speedy stuff.

The Amazon Fire Stick was the item that sold most throughout the year, whilst organic apples were the most popular prime deal at whole foods market. Enough apples were sold to make 350,000, so they tell us. I’m certainly not going to check recipes to see how many apples that equates to. Let’s just say lots.

On the Amazon Prime video side of things, Amazon boast 8 Emmy awards, 2 Golden Globes, and 2 critics choice awards. Jack Ryan and Homecoming are the two most binged shows worldwide. Data from Thursday night football goes right through to November 2018. 20 million fans from over 200 countries have tuned in, with Atlanta, Denver, and Seattle streaming the most games in the states.

On the music front, there will be no need for Justin Timberlake to be crying any rivers. He was the most streamed artist. Telling all my secrets by Mitchell Tenpenny and Astroworld by Travis Scott were the two favorite albums of the year.

Finally, books and gaming. Fortnite proved the most popular in-game loot, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. There were 50 Million free game downloads including Overcooked. Book 1 of the Morgan Dane series, Say you’re sorry by Melinda Leigh was the most read book of the year. Black Panther was customers’ favorite comic book turned movie star.

There are some interesting facts in the Best of Prime 2018 and Amazon prime seems to be going from strength to strength. Let’s see what 2019 brings for the global giant and let’s see how much we all add to the products purchased column.
