Amazon Studios has recently announced that Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten will be joining the cast of Amazon’s live-action adaptation of the Fallout games. Though their roles have not been revealed yet, Lachlan, Mendes-Jones, and Moten will be joining previously-casted Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins in the upcoming live-action series.
The original Fallout game, the first in the Fallout game series, was released by developer Interplay in 1997. The game put players in the shoes of a Vault Dweller, a survivor of the nuclear wastelands of Southern California in the year 2161. A sequel, Fallout 2, was released in 1998, followed by Fallout 3 ten years later – however, where the first two games were top-down, third-person shooter games, Fallout 3 deviated from the series standard to bring players the 3D, first-person RPG experience fans of the series enjoy to this day.
Live-Action “Fallout”: What We Know So Far
According to Polygon, Amazon Studio’s plans for the Fallout TV adaptation were initially announced in July 2020 via a trailer on the official Fallout Twitter. The adaptation, available on Amazon Prime Video, will be based on the post-apocalyptic survival concept of the Fallout series rather than focusing on any single game or characters. However, it has been confirmed that Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) and Walton Goggins (Justified) have been cast in the Amazon Fallout series’ lead roles. The three new cast additions – Kyle MacLachlan (Portlandia), Xelia Mendes-Jones (Havoc), and Aaron Moten (Next) – will be joining Purnell and Goggins as series regulars.
Amazon’s Fallout TV adaptation will be executive produced by Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, a husband-wife team that previously collaborated on Westworld for Kilter Films under a previous agreement with Amazon Studios. Athena Wickham will also produce the series for Kilter Films alongside Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.
According to Variety, the Fallout TV series will begin production later this year. More in-depth information on the series’ characters, plot, and intended release date has not yet been announced.
