Amber Portwood‘s fiancé is no longer a missing person. TMZ confirms that Bryson City Police Department in North Carolina have been in contact with the reality star’s fiancé, Gary Wayt. According to an update about the case closing shared on Friday, Wayt contacted police to confirm he is safe.
Police did their due diligence to ensure that Wayt was, in fact, who he was claiming to be. After answering particular questions, police were able to determine it was Wayt calling. They did not share any further details on where he contacted them from or why he went missing for the week.
Online Rumors Indicated Gary Wayt Was Spotted in Two States
Amber Portwood has not spoken out about Gary Wayt’s re-emergence. Hours ahead of law enforcement’s announcement, rumors began circulating that Wayt was spotted in New Mexico and Oklahoma. Sources claimed he identified himself by name and seemed to be in good health and mentally sound.
Wayt was allegedly spotted buying a phone at a Verizon Wireless store in Oklahoma. His phone had been left behind at the hotel room he shared with Amber in North Carolina, where they visited to celebrate her brother’s wedding.
Teen Mom‘s OGs have been known to stick together. In Amber’s time of need, several of her castmates lent their support.
During a TikTok Live on Wednesday, Catelynn Baltierra discussed the situation surrounding Gary’s disappearance. She also confirmed that their co-star, Maci Bookout McKinney, was traveling to North Carolina to be with Amber.
Responding to speculation that Amber somehow harmed Wayt, Catelynn says that’s simply not the person she knows.
I’ve known Amber for 15 years, okay? She might fly off the handle sometimes, but she’s not going to f–king kill somebody. Come on now. If you guys think that about her, you’re ridiculous.

Catelynn claims MTV has asked her to film about Amber’s current drama, which she has declined to do because she doesn’t want to “exploit the situation.” Later, she clarified that she wasn’t making a dig on the network, who also was helping in the search for Wayt behind the scenes. However, she still felt it wasn’t a situation to film about.
