For some people, eating fast food can feel like a lottery, because you never know what alien material you’ll find in your food. Sadly for one one Texas man, he and his family were angered to find a condom inside the fried chicken he allegedly bought from a local Popeyes. Furious, the man went to the police, only to get laughed at, and he has since escalated the case with the help of a couple of Texas activitists.
The incident occured over the weekend in Houston, Texas. The man allegedly bought fried chicken from a Popeyes located at 7416 S Sam Houston Pkwy W, with receipts and video evidence included, and discovered a condom embedded inside one of the pieces of fried chicken. It’s unclear whether the condom was used or not, but regardless the man called the police right away, only to be supposedly laughed at. Hence, the Texas man apparently asked community activists Dr. Candice Matthews and Quanell X for help.
“What was sad when the young brother called the police.The police thought it was funny and said, well, there’s been no crime committed. So we Can’t give you a report. Doctor Matthews had to get on the cops and make them take a report,” says Quannell X. “You can tell the condom was cooked in the chicken… you have some freak in the kitchen,” the activist added.
According to the community activists, the Texas man who bought the chicken even had to go to the emergency room with some members of his family after they supposedly ate some of the food from Popeyes. Further police reports have been filed with the help of Dr. Matthews, though the two activists didn’t relent and even discouraged the customers present during that time.
People online are disgusted
As a result of the viral attention that Dr. Matthews brought to the incident, the specific Popeyes branch was immediately swarmed with negative reviews online. Majority of the newest negative reviews have seen the video and have raised concerns with sanitation and food quality while also giving 1-star reviews to the Popeyes branch.
According to the owner of the specific branch, “We take food safety seriously, and we will address what happened so it doesn’t happen again.” So far, it appears Popeyes hasn’t identified the employee/s responsible for the condom in the chicken, and the case is still ongoing. Meanwhile, people online in other social media platforms have voiced out their criticisms.
“Fried Freaky Chicken at Popeyes new menu item,” jokes one Instagram user. Others questioned whether some authorities have been notified on the matter as the case might need to be escalated further, “Has the health dept been notified?” It’s not the first time condoms were found in restaurants, but oftentimes, customers don’t find them inside the food.
