A North Carolina mom, Alexa, goes viral after posting a conversation where she apologizes to her seven-year-old for yelling. The emotional moment has sparked conversations in the comments about parenting and breaking cycles, with over 449,000 views, over 102,000 likes, and over 2,800 comments.

Alexa is a mother of two sons and an infant daughter, and she believes it’s important to have honest conversations with them. She starts by addressing her mistake: “Mommy should not have yelled at you.” Her son isn’t surprised. He says, “You always start with an apology.” What makes this video popular is how Alexa explains what she did wrong and asks her child for his opinion on how she could have handled it better. She asks, “Did mommy make it better or did mommy make it worse?” He explains that he wishes she had said it wasn’t a big deal and let him restart.

Alexa continues by explaining that her son didn’t deserve to be spoken to that way. She explains, “Mommy is working on having more self-control myself.” She also never wants to hurt her son’s feelings or make him think being yelled at is okay. His wholesome response has an emotional impact in the comments: “Neither of us deserve that.” She admits she messed up and wasn’t as good as she could have been in handling the situation. Alexa assures him, “You deserve space to feel your feelings without mommy reacting to your feelings.” They also have a tender moment discussing how the conversation is called repairing, which her son compares to a cord not connecting, and says they’re fixing a disconnection.

Thousands React To North Carolina Moment

Thousands have taken to the comments in awe of Alexa’s honesty. One commenter says, “A parent who WANTS to be a PARENT.” A second person assures her, “Give yourself grace, and he is learning forgiveness, and you are his emotional safe place. You are doing a great job, MAMA!” Meanwhile, a third commenter thinks this is the key to changing things: “If my parents did this, my life would be drastically different now.”

However, Alexa’s video particularly struck a chord with several who wished they had parents like her growing up. One commenter writes, “This really healed something in me, thank you.” Another wishes, “I’m gonna pretend this was my mom talking to me. Even though I’m 30. Thanks.” One commenter says, “This has me SOBBING. Can you imagine if we had this growing up?”

Alexa often posts about her ups and downs as a parent of three, and her dedication to being a first-generation cycle breaker.
