Rockstar Game’s highly anticipated Western sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, has experienced another delay. The plus side of the news is that the delay comes with now, a definitive release date. The prequel to Red Dead Redemption will be available on October 26, 2018. Rockstar obviously had plenty of remorse when they broke the news to their fans who have been awaiting a follow-up since the last title’s 2010 release in a blog release, “We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th, 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.”
Rockstar went on to say, “We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks.”
Rockstar Game’s, the studio best known for the Grand Theft Auto series, has a long pedigree of not releasing games until they are fully complete and ready for market. This may be one of the reasons why their most recent release, Grand Theft Auto 5, continues to be near the top of the charts four and a half years after it was released.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature a new protagonist. Gamers will play as Arthur Morgan instead of John Marston. The reason to pursue a prequel instead of a sequel is likely due to the fact that the last Red Dead game ended at the same time as the end of the old west. Gamers who got near the end of the game will remember one of the last missions involved a trip in an early model of an automobile, not the horse wrangling and gun slinging environment that people associate with the series.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release on October 26, 2018, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
