Anya Taylor-Joy made major fashion headlines this week, but Instagram appeared to wince at her choice of outfit. The Queen’s Gambit star was spotted in New York City while heading to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert yesterday, and she didn’t turn up in sweats.
Modeling a revealing, corseted minidress from designer Mugler, Anya made instant headlines for her leggy look, one paired with a sky-high pair of stiletto heels. The images were quickly shared by Just Jared, and it was here that some fans were thinking the high-heeled finish looked “painful.” Anya has been fast-rising as a fashion icon over 2023 and 2024. She recently donned a custom-made Dior gown to attend the premiere of her movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the Cannes Film Festival.
Photographed in the street as she showed off her mile-long legs and slim waist, Anya wowed in a barely there, dark red dress with a fully corseted, lace-up back, plus a dangerously skimpy hemline.
Flashing some cheek while highlighting her toned back and shoulders, the blonde rocked matching red heels for a coordinated finish, sporting her blonde locks in a glam ponytail that brought out her high cheekbones. Meanwhile, hoop earrings and a chunky metallic bangle added low-key flourishes. Just Jared wrote: “Anya Taylor-Joy stepped out in a chic red Mugler dress with a very racy back today while promoting her movie “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” in New York City.”
Fans Say It Looks Straight-Up ‘Painful’
Quickly gaining likes as over 120 users liked the comment, one fan wrote: “Those shoes look insanely painful.” Jumping in, another replied: “She’ll regret wearing them once she gets bunions and tendonitis…”
A third, meanwhile, offered some advice as they stated: “As someone who has been wearing barefoot shoes for the past few years, I can’t but agree.” Others, meanwhile, wondered whether the dress might be showing too much skin. “Red looks insane on her? YES does she have legs for days? ABSOLUTELY YES. But the back is too much, she is a goddess… no need for that,” one fan wrote.
Despite the criticism, many loved the look. Fans threw the actress a fire emoji, with one user saying that Anya “never fails.” Anya has not yet posted the outfit to her Instagram, followed by over 10 million. Her latest post, coming earlier today, celebrated her landing a Vogue Australia cover.
